Leukemic-phase mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma
Int J Hematol. 2023 Sep 12. doi: 10.1007/s12185-023-03654-3. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 78-year-old man presenting with leukocytosis was admitted to our hospital. The patient was asymptomatic and showed no lymphadenopathy. Peripheral blood flow cytometry revealed a leukemic-phase B-cell lymphoma with medium-to-large abnormal cells with reticulum. Positron emission tomography/computed tomography revealed abnormal uptake in the right orbit, bone marrow, and spleen. We performed immunological staining and fluorescence in situ hybridization on tissues extracted from the right orbit and bone marrow, which led to the diagno...

The Piano Man: A Case Report of Anterior Thalamic Infarct with Dementia and Preserved Music Ability
CONCLUSIONS: The case has implications for understanding the complex integrative functions of the thalamus, including how profound impairment can simultaneously present with cognitive strengths that may not be captured by performance on neuropsychological testing. This case also suggests that magnetic resonance imaging may be indicated in cases presenting with vascular risk factors and sudden onset cognitive impairment, given that computed tomography may not be sensitive to small subcortical infarcts.PMID:37699427 | DOI:10.1093/arclin/acad069

Mid-holocene Brown Bear (Ursus arctos) from the Bolshoy Lyakhovsky Island (New Siberian Islands)
Dokl Biol Sci. 2023 Sep 12. doi: 10.1134/S0012496623700692. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA morphological description is provided for a unique find of a frozen mummified subfossil brown bear (Ursus arctos L., 1758), found for the first time ever. The find is a well-preserved bear carcass of approximately 3500 years in age. Results of computed tomography and DNA testing are discussed.PMID:37700103 | DOI:10.1134/S0012496623700692

Presentation of Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor, Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma, and Gastric Adenocarcinoma in a Woman With No Identifiable Genetic Abnormalities
This report details the first known case of co-occurrence of gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), pancreatic adenocarcinoma, and gastric adenocarcinoma in an individual with no identifiable genetic abnormalities. The patient is a 57-year-old female who presented with abdominal pain. CT scan demonstrated a pancreatic mass, and endoscopic ultrasound demonstrated an additional gastric mass. Biopsy of both masses demonstrated adenocarcinoma; however, the masses were found to have different origins. The patient underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy with excellent response. She then underwent surgical intervention, which demonstr...

The potential role of osteoporosis in unspecific < sup > 18 < /sup > FPSMA-1007 bone uptake
CONCLUSIONS: We observed unspecific bone uptake on [18F]PSMA-1007 PET in more than 1/3 of patients. In this exploratory analysis, we found a significant correlation between blood count parameters and unspecific [18F]PSMA-1007 bone uptake. We may speculate that [18F]PSMA-1007 unspecific bone uptake could be associated with osteoporosis. This hypothesis needs to be further investigated in larger populations and exploring more specific markers of osteoporosis.PMID:37698646 | DOI:10.1007/s00259-023-06424-9

Auxiliary Partial Orthotopic Liver Transplant as a Rescue Procedure for Acute Liver Failure with Extra-Small-for-Size Grafts: A Report of 2 Cases
We present 2 cases of acute liver failure treated with auxiliary partial orthotopic liver transplant using an extra-small-for-size graft. The first case was a 12-year-old female patient who presented with druginduced acute liver failure and required an auxiliary partial orthotopic liver transplant with an extra-small left lobe graft (graft-to-recipient weight ratio of 0.45). The second case was a 23-year-old male patient with acute liver failure of unknown etiology who underwent an auxiliary partial orthotopic liver transplant with a small right lobe graft (graft-torecipient weight ratio of 0.5). In both cases, computed to...

Three-dimensional analysis of posttraumatic tibial shaft malunion and correction based on the healthy, contralateral leg
Oper Orthop Traumatol. 2023 Sep 12. doi: 10.1007/s00064-023-00821-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: Three-dimensional (3D) analysis and implementation with patient-specific cutting and repositioning blocks enables correction of complex tibial malunions. Correction can be planned using the contralateral side or a statistical model. Patient-specific 3D-printed cutting guide blocks enable a precise osteotomy and reduction guide blocks help to achieve anatomical reduction. Depending on the type and extent of correction, fibula osteotomy may need to be considered to achieve the desired reduction.CONTRAINDICATIONS: a) ...
