Usefulness of tumor perfusion on cone-beam CT after hepatic arterial infusion port implantation for evaluating tumor response to hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy in hepatocellular carcinoma treatment
CONCLUSION: Hyperperfusion tumors on CBCT showed a better tumor response to HAIC, with a 65% ORR in patients with HCC. Tumor perfusion on CBCT after implantation of the hepatic arterial infusion port was associated with the tumor response to HAIC.PMID:37695260 | DOI:10.4274/dir.2023.232311

Standards of practice in forensic age estimation with CT of the medial clavicular epiphysis —a systematic review
The objective of this analysis was to assess adherence to AGFAD recommendations among practitioners of FAE and analyse reported dose-relevant CT scan parameters with t he objective of helping to establish evidence-based dose reference values for FAE. A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed and in Google Scholar with specific MeSH terms to identify original research articles on FAE with CT of the MCE from 1997 to 2022. A total of 48 studies were incl uded. Adherence to AGFAD recommendations among practitioners of FAE is high regarding the use of Schmeling main stages (93%), bone window (79%), ≤ 1 mm CT...

Acute Traumatic Intervertebral Disc Herniation
Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech. 2023;90(4):283-287.ABSTRACTAcute traumatic intervertebral disc herniation of the thoracic spine is a rather rare injury with only a few reported cases to date. In this manuscript, we present a case of a 58-year-old male patient who sustained a car accident-related high-energy trauma, resulting in a disc herniation of the thoracic spine. Furthermore, we also discuss the possible implications of late diagnosis of such condition. The patient was initially referred from the Emergency Department as a case of head contusion with a left upper limb paresis. Due to only minimal bony trauma visible o...

An Unusual Cause of Fever, Neck Pain, and Neck Stiffness: Acute Calcific Tendinitis of the Longus Colli Muscle
J Emerg Med. 2023 Jun 10:S0736-4679(23)00316-5. doi: 10.1016/j.jemermed.2023.05.023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Acute calcific tendinitis (ACT) of the longus colli muscle (LCM) is an inflammatory response due to deposition of calcium hydroxyapatite crystals. It is typically correlated with whiplash and overuse injuries. A common presentation of this inflammatory response is acute but progressive neck pain. It is a rare but important cause of neck pain that should be considered on a differential diagnosis when distinguishing between life-threatening conditions and non-life-threatening causes of neck pain.CASE...

Exploring the relationship between urinary phthalate metabolites and Crohn's disease via oxidative stress, and the potential moderating role of gut microbiota: A conditional mediation model
CONCLUSIONS: PAEs exposure was related to CD activity, and the association could be mediated by oxidative stress and reversed or alleviated by rich gut microbiota.PMID:37690673 | DOI:10.1016/j.freeradbiomed.2023.09.005

Quantitative anatomy of the large variant right hepatic vein: A systematic three-dimensional analysis
This study aimed to evaluate anatomical variations of the right hepatic vein using quantitative three-dimensional visualization analysis. Computed tomography images of 650 patients were retrospectively analyzed, and three-dimensional visualization was applied using the derived data to analyze large variant right hepatic veins. The proportion of the large variant right hepatic vein was 16.92% (110/650). According to the location and number of the variant right hepatic veins, the configuration of the right hepatic venous system was divided into seven subtypes. The length of the retrohepatic inferior vena cava had a positive ...
