Synchronous rectal adenocarcinoma and intestinal mantle cell lymphoma: A case report
CONCLUSION: Synchronous rectal adenocarcinoma and intestinal MCL presenting as multiple lymphomatous polyposis are extremely rare. MCL is often discovered fortuitously when rectal cancer is diagnosed. The coexistence of these tumors poses treatment challenges.PMID:37727717 | PMC:PMC10506007 | DOI:10.12998/wjcc.v11.i24.5772

A case of suspected allergic bronchopulmonary mycosis caused by scedosporium apiospermum that showed clinical improvement after bronchoscopic removal of a mucus plug
Arerugi. 2023;72(8):1051-1056. doi: 10.15036/arerugi.72.1051.ABSTRACTA 69-year-old woman presented with a persistent cough and high fever. Thoracic computed tomography revealed atelectasis and high-attenuation mucus. The blood test results showed eosinophils at 18.2%, an absolute eosinophil count of 980 cells/μL, and a total serum immunoglobulin E of 1980IU/mL. Bronchoscopy revealed a mucous plug, which upon photomicrograph examination, showed eosinophils. A culture study of the mucus yielded Scedosporium apiospermum, leading to the suspicion of allergic bronchopulmonary mycosis (ABPM) caused by the fungus. After the bron...

Semaglutide ameliorates cognition and glucose metabolism dysfunction in the 3xTg mouse model of Alzheimer's disease via the GLP-1R/SIRT1/GLUT4 pathway
In this study, we found that SIRT1 is closely related to expression of GLP-1R in hippocampus of 3xTg mice. Therefore, we used semaglutide, a novel GLP-1R agonist currently undergoing two phase 3 clinical trials in AD patients, to observe the effect of SIRT1 after semaglutide treatment in 3XTg mice and HT22 cells, and to explore the mechanism of SIRT1 in the glucose metabolism disorders of AD. The mice were injected with semaglutide on alternate days for 30 days, followed by behavioral experiments including open field test, new object recognition test, and Y-maze. The content of glucose in the brain was also measured by usi...

Geriatric patient with neurological symptoms and prolonged aPTT
Inn Med (Heidelb). 2023 Sep 20. doi: 10.1007/s00108-023-01581-3. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 73-year-old man with dementia was referred to our clinic with hypernatremia and volume depletion. New-onset neurogenic dysphagia was likely the reason for both. The patient had chronic embolic strokes on the computed tomography (CT) images. Documentation from previous hospitalizations in different hospitals revealed a repeatedly prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT); 5 years prior, antiphospholipid antibody syndrome had already been suspected, but the necessary workup was never completed. We diagnosed the patie...

A Ruptured Cystic Echinococcosis in the Gallbladder and Intra/Extrahepatic Biliary Tract, Radiological and Surgical Imaging Findings
Turkiye Parazitol Derg. 2023 Sep 18;47(3):200-203. doi: 10.4274/tpd.galenos.2023.65265.ABSTRACTCystic echinococcosis is a common parasitic infestation that can still cause serious complications in endemic areas. Intrabiliary rupture is a well-defined complication, but rupture into the gallbladder is rare. The disease may present with cholecystitis and cholangitis. Clinicians and radiologists working in the emergency room will find the management of the disease much easier if they become familiar with the clinical and radiological findings of the cyst. In this article, a 28-year-old male admitted to the emergency department...

Preventive effect of teriparatide on medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw in rats
In conclusion, TPD administration before tooth extraction helped reduce the occurrence of MRONJ in rats treated with zoledronic acid, confirming its preventative effects.PMID:37726385 | DOI:10.1038/s41598-023-42607-y

Impact of Photon-Counting Detector Computed Tomography on Image Quality and Radiation Dose in Patients With Multiple Myeloma
CONCLUSION: Whole-body PCD-CT provides significantly higher subjective and objective image quality at significantly reduced radiation doses than the current clinical standard EID-CT protocols, along with readily available multi-spectral data, facilitating the potential for further advanced post-processing.PMID:37724589 | DOI:10.3348/kjr.2023.0211

Assessing Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Progression by Using Perivascular Adipose Tissue Attenuation on Computed Tomography Angiography
CONCLUSION: Elevated PVAT attenuation is independently associated with AAA progression, including patients of AAA with ILT, suggesting the potential of PVAT attenuation as a predictive imaging marker for AAA expansion.PMID:37724591 | DOI:10.3348/kjr.2023.0339

Transient left bundle branch block associated with very high coronary artery calcium: a case report
We present a case of very high CAC in a 64-year-old woman with hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and hyperlipidemia presenting with dyspnea. Initial electrocardiogram (ECG) demonstrated normal conduction with a heart rate of 76 beats/min, but new T-wave inversions in V1-V4 and a high-sensitivity troponin-I (hsTnI) value of 6 ng/L (normal < 6 ng/L). Repeat ECG in the emergency department showed normal sinus rhythm (heart rate of 80 beats/min); however, it subsequently demonstrated a left bundle branch block (LBBB) with a repeat hsTnI of 7 ng/L. Stress testing with pharmacologic single-photon emission computerized tomography...
