The effects of thrombomodulin and activated protein C on the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis
Conclusion Treatment with methylprednisolone decreases EDSS score in RRMS relapse. The increase in EDSS is related to level of TM. The changes in level of TM and APC may be indicator for prognosis of MS or treatment modalities to MS.

Leptomeningeal enhancement in Susacs syndrome and multiple sclerosis: Time to expect the unexpected?
Magnetic resonance imaging detection of leptomeningeal enhancement has long been considered a red flag for a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. However, recent studies seem to suggest that leptomeningeal enhancement can be detected in up to 25% of patients with multiple sclerosis. The case reported here suggest a distinct set of features of leptomeningeal enhancement in a patient with Susac’s syndrome which may still be helpful in the differential diagnosis between Susac’s syndrome and multiple sclerosis.

Prognostic indicators of secondary progression in a paediatric-onset multiple sclerosis cohort in Kuwait
Conclusions: This study showed that POMS patients with brainstem/cerebellar presentation and a relatively higher age at MS onset had disposition for SPMS and warrant an aggressive therapeutic approach.

‘Accessible’ Cooking for People With Multiple Sclerosis
This past weekend is still a bit of a blur for me. The trip from home to the Dublin airport, plus the flight to London City Airport, plus a short transfer to my hotel near the ExCeL London convention center took most of Friday and left me quite exhausted. And that was just the travel for an event in which I was to participate over the next two days! After a surprisingly decent night’s sleep, I rose and loaded my body with as much anti-fatigue medication as the prescription allowed and made my way to the event: MS Life 2016. This biannual event took place across the hall from the 32nd annual congress of the European Com...

How to refer to people with disease in research outputs: The disconnection between academic practice and that preferred by people with multiple sclerosis
Conclusion There is a clear disconnection between preferences by individuals living with MS and current academic practise. As pwMS are increasingly reading primary research publications and are involved in patient and public involvement in research and grant review activities, the sensitivities of lay readers should be considered when writing research outputs. This issue may affect other diseases and a change in writing style could be adopted to show that we respect the wishes of the people that we study and wish to help.

Vitamin D supplementation reduces relapse rate in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis patients treated with natalizumab
Conclusion Correction of hypovitaminosis D in clinical practice by recommending oral D3 supplements resulted in increases in 25(OH)D levels in serum, which were associated with decreases in ARR in RRMS.

Salt intake in multiple sclerosis: friend or foe?
High sodium intake has been recently noted as a putative environmental factor linked to multiple sclerosis. In their JNNP publication, Nourbakhsh and colleagues1 report a multicentric study of patients with paediatric multiple sclerosis where no association was detected between sodium intake and time to relapse. High dietary intake of salt is associated with elevated blood pressure, a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease.2 In 2010, 1.65 million annual deaths were attributed to sodium intake above the reference level (2 g/day).2 Nevertheless, the average consumption oscillates between 4 and 6 g/day.2 Beyon...
