Association between Helicobacter pylori infection and multiple sclerosis: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions: We demonstrate a significant lower prevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection in patients with multiple sclerosis. This pathogen might be a protective factor for developing multiple sclerosis.

Evolution of Visual Outcomes in Clinical Trials for Multiple Sclerosis Disease-Modifying Therapies
Conclusions: Visual impairment represents a significant component of overall disability in MS. LCLA and OCT enhance the detection of visual pathway injury and can be used as measures of axonal and neuronal integrity. Continued investigation is ongoing to further incorporate these vision-based assessments into clinical trials of MS therapies.

Incidence and Prevalence of Multiple Sclerosis in Persian Gulf Area: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
ConclusionThe prevalence and incidence of MS in the Persian Gulf region has gone through significant changes during the past decades. This study highlights the need for future studies of MS prevalence and incidence, which will further elucidate the possible etiologies leading to periodical and geographical variations in MS incidence.

An ImmunoChip study of multiple sclerosis risk in African Americans
The aims of this study were: (i) to determine to what degree multiple sclerosis-associated loci discovered in European populations also influence susceptibility in African Americans; (ii) to assess the extent to which the unique linkage disequilibrium patterns in African Americans can contribute to localizing the functionally relevant regions or genes; and (iii) to search for novel African American multiple sclerosis-associated loci. Using the ImmunoChip custom array we genotyped 803 African American cases with multiple sclerosis and 1516 African American control subjects at 130 135 autosomal single nucleotide polymorphism...

Patient needs and preferences in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis: a systematic review
ConclusionsUnderstanding the needs and preferences of CIS/RRMS patients regarding DMT attributes and non-treatment related attributes are important to improve treatment decision-making and reduce non-adherence. Studies are needed to understand patient preferences upon treatment initiation. Furthermore, preference studies should include attributes based on the patient perspective.

P015 Epidemiology of multiple sclerosis in the Middle East: A systematic review and meta analysis
Conclusions Epidemiologic studies in Middle East area represented a significant increase in the incidence and prevalence of MS over time. There were no prevalence study identified in several Middle East countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bahrain, Oman and Yemen. Accordingly our knowledge about epidemiology of MS in the Middle East is extremely limited. Nationwide studies should be conducted to report the epidemiology of the disease in different countries of the region. Such an effort along with further research towards improvement of data on previously studied areas can enable a field to be opened up to identify the pat...

Dysfunction in Multiple Sclerosis: A Scoping Review of the Literature
Conclusions The overall weight of the literature suggests that olfactory dysfunction may occur in MS. Although there is variability in reported frequency, the more robust studies suggest the prevalence is significant, ranging from 20–45% in the MS population. Despite this, the mechanisms are unknown and the clinical relevance of this association has not been well explored. Interesting findings relating mood disorders, cognition, and olfactory dysfunction in MS are also suggested but remain poorly developed and require further investigation. Future studies are also warranted to understand the dynamic changes in olfactory ...

Systematic Review of Depression in Patients With Multiple Sclerosis And Its Relationship to Interferon β treatment
Conclusion The reviewed studies conclude that there is not a clear relationship between IFNβ and depression. A history of depression is a risk factor for developing depression during the first 6 months of treatment, nevertheless, it is not sufficient to contraindicate it. The development of new strategies is crucial for early detection of depressive symptoms. An adequate treatment can both improve the mood and deal with the neurological disease by increasing treatment adherence and interfering with inflammation. Chronic destructive brain changes and serotonergic depletion due to inflammatory factors have been proposed as ...
