Isoxanthohumol improves obesity and glucose metabolism via inhibiting intestinal lipid absorption with a bloom of Akkermansia muciniphila in mice
CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated that IX prevents obesity and enhances glucose metabolism by inhibiting dietary fat absorption. This mechanism is linked to suppressing pancreatic lipase activity and shifts in microbial composition, notably an increase in A. muciniphila. These highlight new treatment strategies for preventing metabolic syndrome by boosting the gut microbiota with food components.PMID:37709134 | DOI:10.1016/j.molmet.2023.101797

Impact of obesity on female puberty and pubertal disorders
Best Pract Res Clin Obstet Gynaecol. 2023 Aug 10;91:102400. doi: 10.1016/j.bpobgyn.2023.102400. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe worldwide epidemic of obesity appears to be one of the crucial health problems. One-third of children and adolescents in the United States are classified as either overweight or obese and 6% of adolescents are severely obese. With the development of high technology, children, and adolescents, spend more time in sedentary life. Together with the availability of consuming fast caloric food, it is almost unavoidable to get an imbalance between caloric intake and caloric expenditure of energy, resul...

Probiotics for pancreatic β-cell function: from possible mechanism of action to assessment of effectiveness
Crit Rev Microbiol. 2023 Sep 13:1-21. doi: 10.1080/1040841X.2023.2257776. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTType 2 diabetes (T2D) is a metabolic disease characterized by chronic hyperglycemia because of insulin resistance (IR) and\or pancreatic β-cell dysfunction. Last century research showed that gut microbiota has a direct effect on metabolism and metabolic diseases. New studies into the human microbiome and its connection with the host is making it possible to develop new therapies for a wide variety of diseases. Inflammation is a well-known precursor to metabolic syndrome, which increases the risk of hypertension, viscera...

Risk factors for postpartum urinary incontinence: The impact of early-onset and late-onset Gestational Diabetes Mellitus in a nested case-control study
CONCLUSION: After a planned C-section, we observed a 6-18 months postpartum UI higher occurrence after GDM, either in early-onset GDM or late-onset GDM. In addition, being overweight (BMI > 25) among women with early-onset GDM was associated with postpartum UI.PMID:37708658 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejogrb.2023.09.007

Preoperative Optimization for Abdominal Wall Reconstruction
Surg Clin North Am. 2023 Oct;103(5):917-933. doi: 10.1016/j.suc.2023.04.022. Epub 2023 Jul 6.ABSTRACTPatients requiring abdominal wall reconstruction may have medical comorbidities and/or complex defects. Comorbidities such as smoking, diabetes, obesity, cirrhosis, and frailty have been associated with an increased risk of postoperative complications. Prehabilitation strategies are variably associated with improved outcomes. Large hernia defects and loss of domain may present challenges in achieving fascial closure, an important part of restoring abdominal wall function. Prehabilitation of the abdominal wall can be achieve...

Less underestimaton of excess weight by the categorical than the visual method. Its determinants and feeding practices in Mexican mothers of children aged 2 to 12 years
CONCLUSIONS: the categorical method was more accurate. Recognition of correct weight perception is one of the first actions required for controlling childhood overweight/obesity.PMID:37705462 | DOI:10.20960/nh.04596

Overweight and obesity in women participating in social feeding programs in Mexico: data from vulnerable population groups in the Mexican National Nutrition and Health Survey 2018
CONCLUSIONS: it is critical that the design of public policy and social feeding programs consider the scientific evidence generated through rich experiences in Mexico, such as the program of CCT Prospera. This will allow decision-makers to address the epidemiological health and nutrition problems impacting the Mexican population today.PMID:37705439 | DOI:10.20960/nh.04603

Association between obesity and likelihood of remission or low disease activity status in psoriatic arthritis applying index-based and patient-based definitions of remission: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: PsA patients with comorbid obesity were 2.5-3 folds less likely to be in remission/LDA by composite scores compared with non-obese patients; however, remission/LDA rates were similar based on the patients' opinion. PsA patients with comorbid obesity may have different disease profiles and require individualised management.PMID:37709527 | DOI:10.1136/rmdopen-2023-003157

Serum branch-chained amino acids are increased in type 2 diabetes and associated with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease
CONCLUSION: Overall, our results indicated that plasma levels of LMWMs measured by 1H-NMR could be potential biomarkers associated with T2D. Moreover, alanine and valine can help in the early detection of the cardiovascular risk associated with this metabolic disease.PMID:37710233 | DOI:10.1186/s12933-023-01958-6
