Impact of body mass index on outcome and treatment-related toxicity in young adults with acute lymphoblastic leukemia
CONCLUSION: Severe obesity is associated with worse EFS in young adults treated according to the non-HR arms of the NOPHO ALL2008 protocol. Poorer outcome is explained with a higher risk of relapse, possibly due to under treatment, and not caused by excess therapy-related mortality.PMID:37725524 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2258450

Prediction of large-for-gestational age at 36  weeks' gestation: two-dimensional vs three-Dimensional vs magnetic resonance imaging
CONCLUSION: At 36 WG, MRI performs better than 2D-US and 3D-US in predicting birthweight > 95th percentile at birth, especially in patients at high-risk for macrosomia, while 2D-US and 3D-US are comparable. For low-risk patients, the three modalities perform similarly. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.PMID:37725758 | DOI:10.1002/uog.27485

Gestational Diabetes Mellitus: Update on Screening, Diagnosis, and Management
Am Fam Physician. 2023 Sep;108(3):249-258.ABSTRACTGestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common condition of pregnancy with increasing prevalence in the United States. GDM increases risks of complications, including operative delivery, hypertensive disorders, shoulder dystocia, fetal macrosomia, large-for-gestational-age infants, neonatal hypoglycemia, and neonatal respiratory distress. In patients who are overweight or obese, prepregnancy weight loss and lifestyle modifications during pregnancy may prevent GDM. First-trimester screening can identify preexisting diabetes and early-onset GDM for prompt implementation of g...

A comprehensive review of genetic causes of obesity
CONCLUSIONS: Genetic study technologies are in constant development; however, we are still far from having a personalized approach to genetic causes of obesity. A significant proportion of the affected individuals are associated with genetic causes; however, there are still barriers to its approach, as it continues to be underdiagnosed. Violation of Food Advertising Regulations in Iran: A Systematic Review
Conclusions: The results of this study indicated a violation of the rules and regu lations of health policies, mainly in the field of promoting foods of low nutritional value during the study period. Violations of the ban on advertising for children were also reported in more than half of the studies.

Diverticulosis and cardiometabolic risk factors: a systematic literature review
ConclusionBased on the synthesized data, there is an association between arterial hypertension, obesity, and fatty liver disease in younger patients. The formation of diverticula seems to be influenced by age and genetic factors. The study suggests a connection with cardiometabolic risk factors. To gain a better understanding of the role of metabolic risk factors in asymptomatic diverticulosis, targeted studies are necessary based on these findings.

CRISPR/Cas9-mediated deletion of adipocyte genes associated with NAFLD alters adipocyte lipid handling and reduces steatosis in hepatocytes < em > in vitro < /em >
Am J Physiol Cell Physiol. 2023 Sep 18. doi: 10.1152/ajpcell.00291.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTObesity is a major risk factor for the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and the subcutaneous white adipose tissue (scWAT) is the primary lipid storage depot and regulates lipid fluxes to other organs. Our previous work identified genes up-regulated in scWAT of patients with NAFLD: SOCS3, DUSP1, and SIK1. Herein, we knocked down (KD) their expression in human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hADMSCs) using CRISPR/Cas9 technology and characterized their phenotype. We found that SOCS3, DUSP1, a...

Health profile of workers from different industries in Singapore
CONCLUSION: Health issues are prevalent in the workforce and may affect work and employee safety. It is increasingly important for employees' health to be considered in risk assessments and prioritised in workplace safety and health management systems and strategies. Health promotion interventions should be targeted, and multilevel and multicomponent initiatives should be integrated with pre-existing occupational safety programmes.PMID:37721304 | DOI:10.4103/singaporemedj.SMJ-2021-414

Physiological effects of exercise in heat while wearing a polyester versus cotton T-shirt in physically active men with obesity: a pilot study
CONCLUSIONS: The current findings do not support the superiority of polyester or cotton sportwear for better thermoregulatory, perspiratory, and cardiovascular regulations in physically active men with obesity. Future research should examine the effectiveness of other alternative fabrics of sportwear for better physiological responses when exercising in the heat, particularly in adults with obesity.PMID:37721720 | DOI:10.23736/S0022-4707.23.15164-4

Comprehensive Search for GPCR Compounds which Can Enhance MafA and/or PDX-1 Expression Levels Using a Small Molecule Compound Library
In conclusion, fulvestrant and dexmedetomidine hydrochloride increased MafA, PDX-1, or insulin expression levels in MIN6 cells and islets from nondiabetic mice and obese type 2 diabetic db/db mice. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report showing some molecule which can enhance MafA and/or PDX-1 expression levels. Therefore, although further extensive study is necessary, we think that the information in this study could be, at least in part, useful at some point such as in the development of new antidiabetes medicine based on the molecular mechanism of β-cell glucose toxicity in the future.PMID:37720599 | PM...

Plasma metanephrines yield fewer false-positive results than urine metanephrines in obstructive sleep apnea patients
CONCLUSION: In OSA patients, plasma metanephrines are less likely to yield false-positive results for the diagnosis of PPGL than 24-hour urinary metanephrines. In patients with suspected OSA, obesity or a family history of hypertension, plasma metanephrines may be the preferred first-line test to avoid unnecessary anxiety or follow-up.PMID:37721483 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgad553
