Multimodal Treatment of Children With Sacrococcygeal Yolk Sac Tumor: Retrospective Analysis of Clinicopathology Characteristics and Relapse-free Survival
The aim of the study was to explore the clinicopathologic characteristics of sacrococcygeal yolk sac tumor (SYST) associated with relapse and the role of sensitivity to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in predicting outcome. The authors investigated prognostic factors of age, stage, initial tumor size, pathologic response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy, and alfa fetoprotein. A total of 26 patients with SYST were enrolled. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy was administered to 20 cases. Six patients underwent resection as initial therapy. Recurrence occurred in 12 patients. Nine patients with specimens exhibiting no malignant component after ch...

Yolk sac tumor of the uterus in a 2-year-old girl: a case report and literature review
Extragonadal yolk sac tumors (YSTs) occurring in the uterus are extremely rare. To report a uterine YST case in a prepubertal girl and review literature on uterine YST to outline clinical management in diagnosis and treatment.

Visualizing the spatiotemporal pattern of yolk sac membrane vascular network by enhanced local fractal analysis
ConclusionsThe spatial distribution of the complexity of the yolk sac membrane vascular network exhibited diverse patterns at different stages. And from E3 to E4, the increment of complexity at the intersection areas between arteries and sinus terminalis was with the most advance. This is consistent with the physiological evidence. The present work provides a potential approach for investigating the spatiotemporal pattern of the angiogenic process.

Splenic rupture revealing metastasis of a yolk sac tumor
We report a rare entity in adults with an exceptional secondary complication. This is a case of a splenic localization of a yolk sac tumor responsible for a splenic rupture in a 52-year-old man.PMID:34973818 | DOI:10.1016/j.annpat.2021.12.002

Yolk Sac Tumor in the Anterior Mediastinum Presenting as Acute Pericarditis
CONCLUSIONS The discussed case shows the rare presentation of an anterior mediastinal mass with acute pericarditis. This emphasizes the importance of a thorough review of systems and critical analysis of every sign and symptom at the time of initial presentation, which helps the physician to obtain appropriate imaging studies early in the course, leading to an early diagnosis and treatment of the disease, such as in this case of an extremely rare germ cell tumor.PMID:35077441 | DOI:10.12659/AJCR.932616

The transfer of amino acids and minerals to the egg yolk and to the yolk sac of their progeny is affected by breeder age
This study aimed to assess the effects of breeder age on egg quality and amino acid and mineral transfer to the egg yolk and yolk sac of newly hatched chicks. Three ages (32, 42 and 52  weeks) of the same commercial flock of Hubbard breeders were studied. A total of 465 eggs were used for each age, with 60 being used for determining egg quality and amino acid and mineral content of yolk, and 405 for incubation period to obtain and evaluate the yolk sac of chicks. Breeders aged 52  weeks had heavier eggs and a higher percentage of yolk (p <  0.05), whereas 32-week-old breeders had higher eggshell percentage and thick...

Surgical management and outcomes for stage 1 malignant ovarian germ cell tumours: A UK multicentre retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Across all histologies and ages, the absence of surgical staging did not impact upon disease free or overall survival in this cohort. This study also raises the possibility of a role for ovarian cystectomy in immature teratoma. These findings warrant investigation in larger prospective studies.PMID:35192975 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejogrb.2022.02.013

Impact of tumor markers on diagnosis, treatment and prognosis in CNS germ cell tumors: correlations with clinical practice and histopathology
AbstractTumor markers in CNS germ cell tumors (GCTs) include human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) and alpha fetoprotein (AFP), which have significant diagnostic implications, as elevation of either one leads to clinical diagnosis of non-germinomatous GCTs without histopathological confirmation, justifying intensified chemotherapy and irradiation. The current study, based on an international cohort of histopathologically verified GCTs that underwent biopsy (n = 85) or resection (n = 76), sought to better define the clinical role and prognostic significance of tumor markers from serum and CSF in this challenging patient po...

Primary orbital yolk sac tumor in an infant: A rare entity
We report a case of pure orbital yolk sac tumor (YST) in an 11-month-old infant, which is a rare entity. The child presented with progressive painless swelling of the right eye and on examination had proptosis, chemosis, and lid edema. Systemic examination was within normal limits. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) orbit revealed a lobulated heterogeneously enhancing right retroocular mass extending up to the orbital apex, displacing the optic nerve and eroding the medial orbital wall. Biopsy of the lesion revealed pure YST histology. Serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) was markedly raised at 76900 ng/mL. She was started on infan...
