E-201 Pre-clinical evaluation of a novel liquid embolic for neurovascular applications
ConclusionsWhile the sample size is limited, the results of this study suggest that the IMPASS novel liquid embolic could be well suited for MMA embolization and other non-shunting neurovascular applications. Future studies are planned.Abstract E-201 Figure 1IMPASS in swine intercoastal arteriesDisclosures A. Siddiqui: None. R. Bjorklund: 5; C; Fluidx Medical Technology, Inc. M. P-027 The size of the target vessel affects the performance of aspiration thrombectomy: patterns of reperfusion failures reproduced in a swine large vessel occlusion model
ConclusionVessel size appears to influence the performance of aspiration thrombectomy. Absence of flow in the aspiration system did not always reflect the clot engagement. It is important to apply contact aspiration especially in small vessels to prevent vessel collapse and to increase efficacy of the treatment.Abstract P-027 Figure 1Disclosures I. E-034 Quantifying endovascular catheter push/pull forces and energies within animal vessels for comparison to silicone neurovascular models with identical tortuosity
ConclusionAnalysis of friction forces and energies were consistent among tested swine vessels, within 5% error. Quantifying friction forces in fresh animal vessels can be directly correlated to the human condition, based on established data on human and animal vessel lubricity. Testing of the latest benchtop vessel models, made from innovative silicone and 3D-printed materials, can now be statistically compared to the animal vessel data and correlated to the human condition. Quantifying the ‘feel’ of catheter progression can provide a platform for improved endovascular surgical simulations, statistical comparis...

E-053 Creation and characterization of synthetic polymer thrombus for thrombectomy device testing
ConclusionPolymer clots are ideal for benchtop testing, with increased shelf-life and minimal biohazard handling requirements when compared to animal blood clots. The polymer clots can be delivered to benchtop vessel models and used for surgical training and device testing. Synthetic clots show substantial promise for thrombectomy device testing as their mechanical properties can be tuned to replicate various whole blood clot types, and can be altered to include fibrous and calcified clot components.Disclosures J. Poor Below the Knee Runoff Impacts Femoropopliteal Stent Failure and Fluoropolymer Antithrombotic Effect in Healthy Swine Model
CONCLUSION: Organising and/or organised thrombus attachment due to poor BTK runoff was the main cause of in stent restenosis of the swine femoral artery. FP-PES demonstrated the least percent area stenosis, suggesting the importance the antithrombotic effect of polymer.PMID:37516380 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2023.07.038

Testing and Evaluation of a Novel Hemostatic Matrix in a Swine Junctional Hemorrhage Model
This study aimed to determine the efficacy of a novel silicon dioxide-based hemostatic matrix (HM) and compare it with the current military standard Quikclot Combat Gauze (QCG) utilizing a lethal femoral artery injury model.

‘Swine flu’ strain passed from humans to pigs nearly 400 times since 2009
Transmission of a strain of H1N1 from humans to pigs has occurred frequently, researchers said. The strain of virus responsible for the 2009 H1N1 pandemic has passed from humans to swine nearly 400 times, according to a new study. The US-based team tracked the swine flu strain pdm09 between the…#influenzaa #cdc #plospathogens #alexeymarkin

' Swine Flu ' Strain Has Passed Between Humans & Pigs Hundreds of Times
FRIDAY, July 28, 2023 -- It ’s well known that some viruses make the leap from animals to humans, but a new study shows the influenza strain responsible for the 2009 H1N1 pandemic has been particularly prolific in hopping between species. That...

A multi-state survey of farm-level preparedness towards African Swine Fever outbreak in Nigeria
This study evaluated preparedness for ASF outbreaks at the farm level among 247 pig farmers randomly selected from Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Edo, Kwara, and Oyo states. We categorized each pig farmer's ASF preparedness rating (ASF - PR) as "poor", "moderate", and "satisfactory" based on their score on an 11-item scale. Finally, a multivariable logistic regression analysis was conducted to assess the association between the socio-demographic variables and farm-level ASF preparedness. The awareness of ASF among pig farmers was very high (87.9%, n = 217). Most farmers knew the clinical signs of the disease, the modes of transmission o...

Changes in the extracellular matrix at microvascular obstruction area after reperfused myocardial infarction: a morphometric study
CONCLUSIONS: ECM composition in infarcted regions with MVO isolated from female swine displays a higher presence of inflammatory infiltrate and polysaccharides as well as reduced number of microvessels and collagen content compared to those areas without microvascular hypoperfusion. These characteristics might underlie the development of adverse ventricular remodeling in MI patients with extensive MVO.PMID:37506775 | DOI:10.1016/j.aanat.2023.152138
