Child Mental Health Status in Flint, Michigan: A Worsening Health Inequity, 2018-2022
Conclusions. Our findings reveal a disparate burden of pediatric mental health disorders and exemplify the health inequities vulnerable populations face. Public Health Implications. More proactive and preventive steps should be taken to lessen this burden, especially in chronically disadvantaged communities that experience public health crises. (Am J Public Health. Using a convex ostomy appliance to manage peristomal skin complications: introducing Aura Plus Soft Convex
This article explores convex stoma appliances, introduces Aura Plus Soft Convex (CliniMed) and presents three case studies of its use. Convexity applies pressure to flatten uneven peristomal skin and form an effective adhesive seal, as well as increase protrusion of a poorly spouted stoma. This reduces the risk of leaks and peristomal skin damage, as well as minimising accessory use. Excess pressure can damage the skin, so convexity should be used with caution at the appropriate depth and firmness for the ostomate's body profile and stomal complications. Aura Plus Soft Convex has a soft and flexible baseplate for easy appl...

Linkage of blood cell division cycle 42 with T helper cells, and their correlation with anxiety, depression, and cognitive impairment in stroke patients
This study aimed to assess the correlation between blood CDC42 and Th cells, and their association with mental issues in stroke patients. Peripheral blood samples were obtained from 264 stroke patients and 50 controls. Then, serum CDC42 was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and Th1, Th2, and Th17 cells were detected by flow cytometry. Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) were applied to patients. CDC42 was decreased (P<0.001), Th1 (P=0.013) and Th17 (P<0.001) cells were elevated, while Th2 cells (P=0.108) showed no difference in stroke patients compared to...

Sex-Dependent Synergism of an Edible THC: CBD Formulation in Reducing Anxiety and Depressive-like Symptoms Following Chronic Stress
Curr Neuropharmacol. 2023 Sep 13. doi: 10.2174/1570159X21666230912101441. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCannabis has shown therapeutic potential in mood and anxiety-related pathologies. However, the two primary constituents of cannabis, cannabidiol (CBD) and Δ-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) produce distinct effects on molecular pathways in neural circuits associated with affective disorders. Moreover, it has been proposed that the combination of THC: and CBD may have unique synergistic properties. In the present study, the effects of a 1:100 THC: CBD ratio edible formulation were tested in behavioural, neuronal and molecula...

Investigation of anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and quality of life of children of healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic
CONCLUSION: It was found that all participants were affected by anxiety, depression, and quality of life decline; moreover, obsessive-compulsive symptoms were more common in children whose parents were healthcare workers. In this context, our findings could help determine possible mental health problems of children and adolescents whose parents are or are not healthcare workers.PMID:37704523 | DOI:10.1016/j.arcped.2023.07.002

Emotion Regulation, Parenting, and Psychopathology: A Systematic Review
Clin Child Fam Psychol Rev. 2023 Sep 13. doi: 10.1007/s10567-023-00452-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe presence of a parental mental disorder can lead to adverse outcomes for children. Difficulties in emotion regulation are observed across a range of mental health problems and may play a crucial role in this context. Following PRISMA guidelines, we systematically searched Medline, PsycINFO, Embase, and Web of Science for studies examining the association between emotion regulation in parents with psychopathology at a clinical or subclinical level and their parenting. The protocol was registered with the PROSPERO inter...

Child abuse and neglect and mental health outcomes in adulthood by ethnicity: Findings from a 40-year longitudinal study in New Zealand/Aotearoa
CONCLUSIONS: Exposure to childhood maltreatment has long-term effects into middle-age. Further research employing culturally-sensitive approaches may help clarify Māori childhood maltreatment outcomes.PMID:37703676 | DOI:10.1016/j.chiabu.2023.106444
