Sympathetic Nervous System Responses to Acute Psychosocial Stress in Male Physicians With Clinical Burnout
CONCLUSIONS: Burnout may be linked to dysfunction of the sympathoadrenal medullary (SAM) system, when exposed to acute psychosocial stress. In keeping with the allostatic load concept, an insufficient SAM stress response in burnout could potentially contribute to cardiovascular disease.PMID:37716520 | DOI:10.1016/j.biopsycho.2023.108687

Guided LGBTQ-affirmative internet cognitive-behavioral therapy for sexual minority youth's mental health: A randomized controlled trial of a minority stress treatment approach
CONCLUSIONS: LGBTQ-affirmative ICBT represents a feasible and acceptable treatment. Future research can identify more efficacious approaches and modalities for engaging LGBTQ youth, especially those living under stigmatizing conditions, who might benefit most.PMID:37716019 | DOI:10.1016/j.brat.2023.104403

Psychosocial Well-Being and Quality of Life in Uveitis: A Review
CONCLUSION: Given the heterogeneity of instruments used, it is worth considering standardization across large uveitis studies and trials. Beyond research, given the biopsychosocial effects on patients with uveitis, there are benefits to incorporating QOL and psychosocial assessments into clinical practice. Simplification of questionnaires into abridged forms, focusing on the most clinically relevant aspects of patient care, may be considered.PMID:37713271 | DOI:10.1080/09273948.2023.2247077

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) for Depersonalization Derealization Disorder (DDD): a self-controlled cross-over study of waiting list vs. active treatment
We report on a clinical audit of 36 participants with a diagnosis of chronic DDD who were sequentially recruited from a specialist DDD National Health Service clinic in London, United Kingdom, and who completed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy specifically adapted for DDD. The sample population had a mean age of 38.7 years (s.d. = 13.4), 61% were male and 69% were of White ethnicity. Three outcomes were assessed (Cambridge Depersonalisation Scale [CDS], Beck Depression Inventory [BDI], and the Beck Anxiety Inventory [BAI]) at three time points in a naturalistic, self-controlled, cross-over design. Hierarchical longitudinal an...

Effect of work from home and employee mental health through mediating role of workaholism and work-family balance
This study provides real-world guidance to human resource managers on how to prioritize composite-level interventions at all levels of the university to create highly satisfied employees, provide a good working environment, and improve employees' mental health.ORIGINALITY/VALUE: Many researches have been done on the relationship between work-from-home and employee mental health, but relatively few have looked at how work-life balance and workaholism play a role in how work-from-home affects employees' mental health. This study fills a need in the academic and practitioner literature by investigating the relationship betwee...

Emotion dynamics of clients with test anxiety before and after an imagery-based treatment
CONCLUSION: These results provide first evidence for the idea that emotion dynamics may be associated with response to treatment for TA. Furthermore, effective imagery-based treatments may be tied to changes within these dynamics.PMID:37714799 | DOI:10.1016/j.jbtep.2023.101909

Factors associated with depression among healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Psychol Med. 2023 Sep 15:1-10. doi: 10.1017/S0033291723002271. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on the mental health of healthcare workers (HCWs). We aimed to identify the factors associated with depression among HCWs during the pandemic. We conducted literature search using eight electronic databases up to July 27 2022. Observational studies with more than 200 participants investigating correlates of depression in HCWs after COVID-19 outbreak were included. We used fixed- and random-effects models to pool odds ratios (ORs) across studies, and Cochran's chi-squared test and I 2 ...

Mental Health Screening Differences in Non-English Speaking Patients: Results From a Retrospective Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: Results highlight the inequities between the language groups that are probably the result of the challenges to access multilingual depression and anxiety screening instruments. Furthermore, providers may be prone to bias about who they think "needs" a mental health screening. We suggest that measures are implemented to ensure consistency in mental health screening regardless of a patients' preferred language.PMID:37714820 | DOI:10.1177/21501319231200304

Insomnia Burden among Informal Caregivers of Hospitalized Lung Cancer Patients and Its Influencing Factors
CONCLUSION: Of the hospitalized patients with lung cancer, 51.9% experienced insomnia. Patients' ADL, ICs gender, alcohol consumption, underlying medical conditions, caregiving duration, and monthly expenses were influencing factors. Therefore, prompt screening and early intervention for ICs of patients with lung cancer is necessary.PMID:37711083 | DOI:10.3967/bes2023.099
