Nationwide Evaluation of Quality of Care Indicators for Individuals with Severe Mental Illness and Diabetes Mellitus, Following Israel's Mental Health Reform
Community Ment Health J. 2023 Sep 11. doi: 10.1007/s10597-023-01178-y. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDiabetes Mellitus (DM) is more common among individuals with severe mental illness (SMI). We aimed to assess quality-of-care-indicators in individuals with SMI following the 2015 Israel's Mental-Health-reform. We analyzed yearly changes in 2015-2019 of quality-of-care-measures and intermediate-DM-outcomes, with adjustment for gender, age-group, and socioeconomic status (SES) and compared individuals with SMI to the general adult population. Adults with SMI had higher prevalences of DM (odds ratio (OR) = 1.64; 95% confidence...

The association between atherogenic index of plasma and all-cause mortality and cardiovascular disease-specific mortality in hypertension patients: a retrospective cohort study of NHANES
CONCLUSION: AIP was associated with both all-cause mortality and CVD-specific mortality in patients with hypertension, but the specific role of AIP in prognosis in hypertensive populations is needed further exploration.PMID:37697281 | DOI:10.1186/s12872-023-03451-0

Effect of β-sitosterol on insulin resistance & amp; protein expression of insulin signalling molecules in quadriceps muscle of high fat diet-induced type-2 diabetic rats
Bioinformation. 2022 Nov 30;18(11):1098-1104. doi: 10.6026/973206300181098. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTChanges in life style, such as high-calorie diet intake and lack of exercise, have increased the global prevalence of obesity and diabetes. The major pathophysiological event contributing to the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus is the target tissues to insulin action. Currently available drugs are unsuccessful for the treatment of type 2 diabetes due to their unwanted side effects. Hence, search drugs, from plant sources. β-sitosterol is plant sterols with structurally almost like that of cholesterol. It is widely p...

The link between psoriasis and other diseases based on epidemiological and genetic analyses
Postepy Dermatol Alergol. 2023 Aug;40(4):496-503. doi: 10.5114/ada.2023.130518. Epub 2023 Sep 1.ABSTRACTPsoriasis is a chronic disease, which is associated with numerous genetic and environmental factors. The high prevalence of psoriasis worldwide (2-3% of the general population) and its various comorbidities lead to research on its pathogenesis. The aim of this article is to describe the current state of knowledge on the potential links between psoriasis and other diseases, such as inflammatory bowel diseases, uveitis, arthritis, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, diabetes mellitus, atherosclerosis, fatty liver disease, dy...

Overweight and obesity are associated with better survival in STEMI patients with diabetes
CONCLUSIONS: A U-shaped association governs the relationship between BMI and mortality in STEMI patients with diabetes, with those having overweight and obesity experiencing better survival.PMID:37691173 | DOI:10.1002/oby.23863

Characteristics of Premature Myocardial Infarction Among Women With Prior Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes
CONCLUSIONS: Among women with premature MIs, 39% had a history of an APO. Women with APO history presented sooner after pregnancy but had similar MI characteristics vs those without APOs. Pregnancy history may identify women who warrant early, aggressive cardiovascular disease prevention.PMID:37694271 | PMC:PMC10487279 | DOI:10.1016/j.jacadv.2023.100411

Novel Quinazolinone Derivatives: Synthetic Analogues for the Treatment of Glaucoma, Alzheimer's Disease and Diabetes Mellitus
Chem Biodivers. 2023 Sep 11:e202301134. doi: 10.1002/cbdv.202301134. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNovel quinazolinone derivatives (1-21) were synthesized from the reaction of acylated derivatives of 4-hydroxy benzaldehyde (AAD) with 3-amino-2-alkylquinazolin-4(3H)-ones (QD) with good yields (85-94%). The structures of the novel molecules were characterized using Fourier-transform Infrared (FTIR), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (1H NMR - 13C NMR), and High-Resolution Mass Spectroscopy (HRMS). As the application of the synthesized compounds, their inhibition properties of the synthesized compounds on α-Glucosidase (α-Glu), Ac...

A novel berberine derivative targeting adipocyte differentiation to alleviate TNF- α-induced inflammatory effects and insulin resistance in OP9 cells
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Sep 9;167:115433. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115433. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInflammation and insulin resistance play important roles in the development and progression of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The enhancement of adipocyte differentiation can improve insulin sensitivity by increasing glucose uptake, improving insulin signaling, and reducing inflammation. However, only a few adipogenic agents have shown clinical success in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The therapeutic potential of berberine in type 2 diabetes mellitus was confirmed in terms of the target gene-disease relationshi...

Association of dietary and lifestyle inflammation score with type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiometabolic risk factors in Iranian adults: Sabzevar Persian Cohort Study
In this study, we identified and recruited 619 patients with T2DM and 2113 without T2DM from 35-75 years old men and women in the baseline phase of the Sabzevar Persian Cohort Study. Using a validated 115-item semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire, we calculated a 19-component DIS and a 3-component LIS weighted by circulating inflammation biomarkers. The DIS, LIS, and DLIS associations with diabetes were assessed by multivariable logistic regression analysis. Participants had a mean age of 48.29±8.53 (without T2DM: 47.66±8.42; T2DM: 50.44±8.57). Individuals in the highest compared to the lowest tertiles of DLIS...
