Nationwide Evaluation of Quality of Care Indicators for Individuals with Severe Mental Illness and Diabetes Mellitus, Following Israel's Mental Health Reform
Community Ment Health J. 2023 Sep 11. doi: 10.1007/s10597-023-01178-y. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDiabetes Mellitus (DM) is more common among individuals with severe mental illness (SMI). We aimed to assess quality-of-care-indicators in individuals with SMI following the 2015 Israel's Mental-Health-reform. We analyzed yearly changes in 2015-2019 of quality-of-care-measures and intermediate-DM-outcomes, with adjustment for gender, age-group, and socioeconomic status (SES) and compared individuals with SMI to the general adult population. Adults with SMI had higher prevalences of DM (odds ratio (OR) = 1.64; 95% confidence...

Overweight and obesity are associated with better survival in STEMI patients with diabetes
CONCLUSIONS: A U-shaped association governs the relationship between BMI and mortality in STEMI patients with diabetes, with those having overweight and obesity experiencing better survival.PMID:37691173 | DOI:10.1002/oby.23863

FTO gene Variants (rs9939609, rs8050136 and rs17817449) and type 2 diabetes mellitus risk: A Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSION: The present meta-analysis confirms that rs9939609 and rs8050136 in the FTO gene are significantly associated with T2DM, while rs17817449 does not show any association.PMID:37696421 | DOI:10.1016/j.gene.2023.147791

The mechanisms of exosomes in diabetic foot ulcers healing: a detailed review
J Mol Med (Berl). 2023 Sep 11. doi: 10.1007/s00109-023-02357-w. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAs time goes by, the morbidity of diabetes mellitus continues to rise, and the economic burden of diabetic foot ulcers as a common and serious complication of diabetes is increasing. However, currently there is no unified clinical treatment strategy for this complication, and the therapeutic efficacy is unsatisfactory. Recent studies have revealed that biological effects of exosomes involved in multiple stages of the process of wound closure are similar to source cells. Compared with source cells, exosomes possess lowly immunogeni...

Dolutegravir use over 48 weeks is not associated with worsening insulin resistance and pancreatic beta cell function in a cohort of HIV-infected Ugandan adults
CONCLUSION: We demonstrated insignificant changes in both insulin resistance and pancreatic beta cell function in clinically stable young adult Ugandan PWH on dolutegravir for 48 weeks. We add to the body of evidence demonstrating glucose metabolic safety of dolutegravir in ART naïve patients. Ugandan guidelines should reconsider restricting DTG initiation in ART naive adults at high risk for diabetes.PMID:37689695 | DOI:10.1186/s12981-023-00564-6

Clinical Significance of Radical Prostatectomy in Clinical Lymph Node Metastasis in Prostate Cancer
CONCLUSION: Radical prostatectomy can confirm lymph node metastasis. Although pathologic diagnosis has no effect on time to BCR and CPRC, because it affects BCR rate, CRPC rate, and CSS, an accurate pathological diagnosis obtained through surgery is beneficial in the treatment of clinical lymph node metastasis prostate cancer.PMID:37689608 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-023-14137-4

Temperature-sensitive hydrogel dressing loaded with nicotinamide mononucleotide accelerating wound healing in diabetic mice
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Sep 7;167:115431. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115431. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDiabetic foot ulcers, a common complication of diabetes mellitus, significantly impact patients' quality of life and impose a substantial economic burden on healthcare systems. However, the currently used treatments are associated with various challenges and the traditionally used dressings lack functional efficacy. Oxidative stress is believed to play a vital role in diabetic wound healing. Therefore, nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), which is known for its antioxidant properties, offers the potential to accelerat...

Multivessel Coronary Artery Disease Complicated by Diabetes Mellitus Has a Relatively Small Effect on Endothelial and Lipoprotein Lipases Expression in the Human Atrial Myocardium and Coronary Perivascular Adipose Tissue
Int J Mol Sci. 2023 Aug 31;24(17):13552. doi: 10.3390/ijms241713552.ABSTRACTEndothelial (EL) and lipoprotein (LPL) lipases are enzymes involved in lipoproteins metabolism and formation of atherosclerosis, a pathological feature of coronary artery disease (CAD). This paper examines the role of the lipases in the right atrial appendage (RAA) and coronary perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT) of patients with CAD alone or with accompanying diabetes. Additionally, correlation analysis for plasma concentration of the lipases, apolipoproteins (ApoA-ApoJ) and blood lipids (Chol, HDL-C, LDL-C, TAG) was performed. We observed that CAD...
