Opening a window to skin biomarkers for diabetes stage with optoacoustic mesoscopy
Light Sci Appl. 2023 Sep 18;12(1):231. doi: 10.1038/s41377-023-01275-3.ABSTRACTBeing the largest and most accessible organ of the human body, the skin could offer a window to diabetes-related complications on the microvasculature. However, skin microvasculature is typically assessed by histological analysis, which is not suited for applications to large populations or longitudinal studies. We introduce ultra-wideband raster-scan optoacoustic mesoscopy (RSOM) for precise, non-invasive assessment of diabetes-related changes in the dermal microvasculature and skin micro-anatomy, resolved with unprecedented sensitivity and det...

Evaluation of Willis Polygon Morphometry with Cranial Tomographic Angiography
CONCLUSION: We also found that the vessel diameters were similar in the HT, DM and HT+DM groups, and smaller than the control group. In addition, we think that knowing WP morphometric measurements will both guide the radio-anatomical evaluations to be made and increase the level of microanatomical knowledge in surgical treatment.PMID:37715602 | DOI:10.5137/1019-5149.JTN.40346-22.4

Multifunctional and theranostic hydrogels for wound healing acceleration: An emphasis on diabetic-related chronic wounds
Environ Res. 2023 Sep 14:117087. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2023.117087. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHydrogels represent intricate three-dimensional polymeric structures, renowned for their compatibility with living systems and their ability to naturally degrade. These networks stand as promising and viable foundations for a range of biomedical uses. The practical feasibility of employing hydrogels in clinical trials has been well-demonstrated. Among the prevalent biomedical uses of hydrogels, a significant application arises in the context of wound healing. This intricate progression involves distinct phases of inflammation,...

Experiences and expectations of physician communication: A focus group discussion with Indian patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
CONCLUSIONS: The medical encounter with the physician elicited a range of negative experiences and clear expectations from the patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This pilot points to the need for (a) a mixed methods approach to comprehensively examine the communication needs of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus from their physician, (b) understand physicians' communication practices, and (c) using these findings, culturally adapt and test the Relationship: Establishment, Development, and Engagement to improve physicians' communication skills in India.PMID:37710965 | DOI:10.1177/17423953231200683
