Acute invasive fungal rhinosinusitis in post-COVID-19 patients in Vietnam
CONCLUSION: The presence of meningitis upon initial diagnosis is related to a significantly higher chance of developing a fatal outcome and should be considered, especially in AIFR patients previously treated for COVID-19 infections. Early diagnosis, early use of antifungal agents, aggressive surgical debridement, and control of comorbid conditions remain crucial in managing AIFR.PMID:37714767 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2023.08.030

Experiences and expectations of physician communication: A focus group discussion with Indian patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
CONCLUSIONS: The medical encounter with the physician elicited a range of negative experiences and clear expectations from the patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This pilot points to the need for (a) a mixed methods approach to comprehensively examine the communication needs of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus from their physician, (b) understand physicians' communication practices, and (c) using these findings, culturally adapt and test the Relationship: Establishment, Development, and Engagement to improve physicians' communication skills in India.PMID:37710965 | DOI:10.1177/17423953231200683

Correlation between High Incidence of Colorectal Neoplastic Polyps and High-risk Adenomas in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus: A Retrospective Study
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that patients with DM, age ≥ 50 years, male gender, alcohol consumption, and a first-degree relative with a history of CRC should undergo regular endoscopic screening and colonic polypectomy.PMID:37711116 | DOI:10.2174/1871530323666230913105743

The artificial pancreas: two alternative approaches to achieve a fully closed-loop system with optimal glucose control
CONCLUSION: This narrative review presents two lesser-explored viable solutions for AP systems and discusses the potential for improvement toward a fully automated system: A) using the intraperitoneal approach for more rapid insulin absorption, and B) besides using glucagon to treat and prevent hypoglycemia, also administering micro-boluses of glucagon to increase the local SC blood flow, thereby accelerating SC insulin absorption and SC glucose sensor site dynamics.PMID:37715091 | DOI:10.1007/s40618-023-02193-2
