Global, regional, and national burden of hypertensive heart disease among older adults in 204 countries and territories between 1990 and 2019: a trend analysis
CONCLUSIONS: In the past three decades, there has been an overall increasing trend in the prevalence of HHD among older adults worldwide despite decreasing trends in mortality and the DALY rate. Better management of hypertension, and prevention and control of HHD are needed in older adults.PMID:37698022 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002863

Immunoregulation mechanism of VEGF signaling pathway inhibitors and its efficacy on the kidney
Am J Med Sci. 2023 Sep 10:S0002-9629(23)01330-7. doi: 10.1016/j.amjms.2023.09.005. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAngiogenesis and immunosuppression are closely related pathophysiologic processes. Widely prescribed in malignant tumor and proliferative retinal lesions, VEGF signaling pathway inhibitors may cause hypertension and renal injury in some patients, presenting with proteinuria, nephrotic syndrome, renal failure and thrombotic microangiopathy. VEGF signaling pathway inhibitors block the action of both VEGF-A and VEGF-C. However, VEGF-A and VEGF-C produced by podocytes are vital to maintain the physiological function...

MicroRNAs and their regulators: Potential therapeutic targets in pulmonary arterial hypertension
Vascul Pharmacol. 2023 Sep 10;153:107216. doi: 10.1016/j.vph.2023.107216. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a complex and progressive disease characterized by pulmonary arterial remodeling. Despite that current combination therapy has shown improvement in morbidity and mortality, a better deciphering of the underlying pathological mechanisms and novel therapeutic targets is urgently needed to combat PAH. MicroRNA, the critical element in post-transcription mechanisms, mediates cellular functions mainly by tuning downstream target gene expression. Meanwhile, upstream regulators can regul...

Altered Smooth Muscle Cell Histone Acetylome by the SPHK2/S1P Axis Promotes Pulmonary Hypertension
CONCLUSIONS: SPHK2 expression and its activation of the reversible histone H3K9 acetylation in human pulmonary artery smooth muscle cell represent new therapeutic targets that could mitigate PH vascular remodeling.PMID:37698017 | DOI:10.1161/CIRCRESAHA.123.322740

Pentastatin, a matrikine of the Collagen IVa5, is a novel endogenous mediator of pulmonary endothelial dysfunction
This study identifies pentastatin as a mediator of endothelial cell dysfunction, which thus might contribute to the pathogenesis of pulmonary vascular disorders such as pulmonary hypertension.PMID:37694286 | DOI:10.1152/ajpcell.00391.2023

The disappearance of gastric metastasis and liver metastasis in non-small cell lung adenocarcinoma is due to osimertinib
CONCLUSIONS: This is the first report to our knowledge of a patient who presented with gastric and hepatic metastases from lung cancer and achieved complete remission with osimertinib and local radiotherapy, with good quality of life, which also provides a basis for future clinical work and is of great significance.PMID:37695388 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-05386-7

Maintenance anlotinib improves the survival prognosis of extensive-stage small cell lung cancer: a single-arm, prospective, phase II study
Am J Cancer Res. 2023 Aug 15;13(8):3679-3685. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTThe extent to which anlotinib provides survival benefits in the maintenance therapy of extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC) remains unclear. Thus, this study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of anlotinib monotherapy as maintenance therapy following induction chemotherapy in ES-SCLC patients. 27 ES-SCLC patients registered at the First Teaching Hospital of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine were screened from February 2022 to October 2022, of which 3 were not eligible. Eligible patients in stable status after first-line...
