Genetic Predictors of Ibrutinib-Related Cardiovascular Side Effects in Patients with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest possible genetic determinants of ibrutinib-related CVSEs in CLL. If replicated in a larger study, pre-treatment pharmacogenetic testing for GATA4 and KCNQ1 polymorphisms may be a useful clinical tool for personalizing treatment selection for CLL and/or instituting early risk-mitigation strategies.PMID:37738027 | DOI:10.1158/1078-0432.CCR-23-0421

Fetal Exposure to Preeclampsia and Later Risk of Cardiometabolic Disorders: A Population-Based Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: Fetal preeclampsia exposure was associated with adult life hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia, but these associations were likely due to shared etiological factors, rather than exposure to the preeclamptic condition itself.PMID:37737002 | DOI:10.1161/HYPERTENSIONAHA.122.20682

Circ_0068481 affects the human pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells' progression by miR-361-3p/KLF5 axis
CONCLUSION: Circ_0068481 knockdown ameliorated hypoxia-induced hPASMC proliferation, invasion and migration at least in part through the miR-361-3p/KLF5 axis.PMID:37738301 | DOI:10.1093/ajh/hpad028

Should we suspect primary aldosteronism in patients with hypokalaemic rhabdomyolysis? A systematic review
Severe hypokalaemia causing rhabdomyolysis (RML) in primary aldosteronism (PA) is a rare entity, and only a few cases have been reported over the last four decades. This systematic review and case report aims to gather all published data regarding a hypokalaemic RML as presentation of PA in order to contribute to the early diagnosis of this extremely rare presentation. With the use of PubMed Central, EMBASE, and Google Scholar, a thorough internet-based search of the literature was conducted to identify articles and cases with RML secondary to hypokalaemia due to PA between June 1976 and July 2023. The case study concerns ...

The effect of exercise on vascular health in chronic kidney disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Am J Physiol Renal Physiol. 2023 Sep 21. doi: 10.1152/ajprenal.00152.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPatients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease. This increased risk cannot be fully explained by traditional risk factors such as hypertension. Endothelial dysfunction and arterial stiffness have been suggested as factors which explain some of the increased risk, and are independently associated with important cardiovascular outcomes in CKD patients. Studies in other disease populations have shown positive effects of exercise on vascular dysfunction. The aim of this review was...

Effects of epicatechin on cardiovascular function in middle-aged diet-induced obese rat models of metabolic syndrome
This study aimed to investigate the cardiovascular effects of epicatechin, a flavonoid found in green tea and cocoa, in attenuating complications associated with metabolic syndrome in diet-induced obese rats.Male Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats aged 16 weeks were fed either standard rat chow (SC) or given a high-fat-high-carbohydrate (HFHC) diet for 20 weeks. Epicatechin treatment (5mg/kg/day) was administered to a subset of WKY rats commencing at week 8 of the 20 week HFHC feeding period. Body weights, food, water and energy intakes, blood pressure, heart rate and glucose tolerance were measured throughout the treatment period. O...

Vascular and autonomic function as early predictive biomarkers of the progression to gestational hypertension
CONCLUSIONS: Developed GH is preceded early in pregnancy by endothelial dysfunction and increased arterial stiffness. In this context, there are SNS-PNS interrelation modifications with less inhibition of PNS.PMID:37732111 | PMC:PMC10507205 | DOI:10.1016/j.eurox.2023.100236
