Biol Trace Elem Res. 2023 Sep 15. doi: 10.1007/s12011-023-03832-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe extensive applications of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) have resulted in a substantial risk of human exposure. However, the knowledge of the toxicity of these NPs in the nervous system is still limited. A comparative analysis of ZnO NPs of various sizes and NPs of the same size, with and without surface coating, and the potential role of released zinc ions is yet to be thoroughly explored. As a result, we have studied the cellular toxicity of two different-sized ZnO NPs, ZnO-22 (22 nm) and ZnO-43 (43 nm), and NPs with ...

Photoelectrocatalytic modification of nanofiltration membranes with SrF < sub > 2 < /sub > /Ti < sub > 3 < /sub > C < sub > 2 < /sub > T < sub > x < /sub > to simultaneously enhance heavy metal ions rejection and permeability
In this study, a water bath method was used to form SrF2/Ti3C2Tx (ST) nanoparticles on the surface of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes and an additional polyamide (PA) functional layer was formed at the interface by crosslinking. ST@PA composite NF membranes (STPP) with good photocatalytic performance were obtained. The separation and catalytic properties of the STPP membranes were controlled by the ST content, which modifies the surface structure and properties of the membranes. The membrane with optimal ST crosslinking exhibited a water contact angle of 50.8°, pure water flux of 24.6 L·m-2·h-1·bar-1, and reje...

Fabrication of Nickel/Zinc Oxide Nanocomposites from Citrus sinensis Extract Prompts Apoptosis Through Impeding JAK/STAT3 Signaling in Gastric Cancer
In this study, we sought to fabricate nickel/zinc oxide nanocomposites utilizing Citrus sinensis (C. sinensis) peel extract (CS-Ni/ZnO NCs) and investigate their ability to impede the JAK/STAT3 signaling pathway in gastric cancer AGS cells. Different methods, including UV-Vis spectral analysis, FT-IR, XRD, FE-SEM, EDAX, DLS, and zeta potential, were used to characterize the fabricated CS-Ni/ZnO NCs. By measuring ROS, MMP, and apoptotic cell death using the appropriate fluorescence describing procedures, the anticancer potential of CS-Ni/ZnO NCs was examined against AGS cells. The synthesized CS-Ni/ZnO NCs displayed a rod s...

Ultrason Sonochem. 2023 Sep 7;100:106594. doi: 10.1016/j.ultsonch.2023.106594. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe study aimed to develop a locust protein (Loct-Prot)-based film to enhance the lipid oxidative and storage stability of chocolate. The E. purpurea flower extract based-nanoparticles (EFNPs) were developed using ultrasonication (500 W and 20 kHz for 10 min) following a green method of synthesis. The EFPNs were incorporated at different levels [T0 (0%), T1 (1.0%), T2 (1.5%), and T3 (2.0%)] to impart bioactive properties to the Loct-Prot-based films which were used for packaging of white chocolate during 90 days tri...

Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Sep 13:126855. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.126855. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSimple soaking of bacterial cellulose (BC) membrane in carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) solution yielded BC/CMC hydrogel having re-swellable property. Then, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were embedded in the BC/CMC hydrogel via in situ chemical reduction to form BC/CMC/AuNPs composite hydrogel. It was found that the composite hydrogel exhibited physical/chemical characteristics similar to those of BC. The AuNPs with an average diameter of 13 nm distributed uniformly within the BC/CMC matrix as verified by transmission elec...

Analytical methods, FTIR, SEM, XRD, and EDX, were utilized to thoroughly characterize the produced CS-CoO nanocomposite. In FTIR spectra, the presence of the chitosan peaks in addition to that of CoO at 681 and 558 cm-1 confirmed that CoO molecules interact with the chitosan backbone. Moreover, in the XRD measurements, significantly less chitosan ...
