Polyazine nanoparticles as anchors of PQQ glucose dehydrogenase for its most efficient bioelectrocatalysis
We report on the drop-cast production of glucose biosensors based on the most efficient bioelectrocatalysis by pyrroloquinoline quinone dependent glucose dehydrogenase (PQQ GDH). To orient the enzyme upon immobilization we suggest using poly(Methylene Green) (p(MG)) nanoparticles acting as anchors. Synthesis of polymeric anchors has been carried out in course of Methylene Green electropolymerization, which allowed to tune polymer-to-monomer ratio in the drop-cast mixtures varying the monomer concentration and applying different number of potential sweep cycles. Except for elimination of electrochemical step for the electro...

Insights into enterovirus a-71 antiviral development: from natural sources to synthetic nanoparticles
Arch Microbiol. 2023 Sep 21;205(10):334. doi: 10.1007/s00203-023-03660-3.ABSTRACTEnteroviruses are pathogens responsible for several diseases, being enterovirus A71 (EVA71) the second leading cause of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD), especially in Asia-Pacific countries. HFMD is mostly common in infants and children, with mild symptoms. However, the disease can result in severe nervous system disorders in children as well as in immunosuppressed adults. The virus is highly contagious, and its transmission occurs via fecal-oral, oropharyngeal secretions, and fomites. The EVA71 burdens the healthy systems and economies a...

Photoredox Cascade Catalyst for Efficient Hydrogen Production with Biomass Photoreforming
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2023 Sep 21:e202313014. doi: 10.1002/anie.202313014. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBiomass photoreforming is a promising method to provide both a clean energy resource in the form of hydrogen (H2) and valuable chemicals as the results of water reduction and biomass oxidation. To overcome the poor contact between heterogeneous photocatalysts and biomass substrates, we fabricated a new photoredox cascade catalyst by combining a homogeneous catalyst, 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine 1-oxyl (TEMPO), and a heterogeneous dual-dye sensitized photocatalyst (DDSP) composed of two Ru(II)-polypyridine photosensit...

Tannin-Assisted Synthesis of Nanocomposites Loaded with Silver Nanoparticles and Their Multifunctional Applications
Biomacromolecules. 2023 Sep 21. doi: 10.1021/acs.biomac.3c00737. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNanocomposites have been widely used in many important areas due to their particular physical/chemical properties; however, just though a simple technology, endowing multiple functions into a single nanomaterial for realizing their multifunctional applications is still a challenge. Here, we report a robust method for the facile synthesis of Ag-based multifunctional nanocomposites via using tannin-coated phenol-formaldehyde resin nanospheres (TA-PFRN) as silver nanoparticle (Ag NP) carriers. The thickness of the tannin coating is ...

Use of Co < sub > 3 < /sub > O < sub > 4 < /sub > nanoparticles with different surface morphologies for removal of toxic substances and investigation of antimicrobial activities via in vivo studies
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Sep 21. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-29879-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCo3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) were formed using hydrothermal synthesis method and various surfactants to study the effect of changing surface morphology on catalytic and antibacterial activities. FT-IR, TEM, SEM, BET, XRD, and XPS analyses were performed to characterize the NPs. It was observed that as the morphology of Co3O4 changes, it creates differences in the reduction efficiency of organic dyes and p-nitrophenol (p-NP), which are toxic to living organisms and widely used in industry. The reaction rate constants (Kapp) ...

Development of a high-performance label-free electrochemical immunosensor for early cancer diagnosis using anti-CEA/Ag-MOF/GO/GCE nanocomposite
Environ Res. 2023 Sep 19:117178. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2023.117178. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn order to detect carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) as a tumor marker in lung cancer for early cancer diagnosis, this study aimed to develop a label-free electrochemical immunosensor based on the immobilization of an Anti-CEA antibody on a metal-organic framework (MOF)-graphene oxide nanocomposite modified glassy carbon electrode (Anti-CEA/Ag-MOF/GO/GCE). Ag-MOF/GO nanocomposite was prepared on the GCE surface using the ultrasonic irradiation method, and Anti-CEA antibody was subsequently immobilized on the surface. Analysis of ...

Cytocompatibility, antibacterial, and corrosion properties of chitosan/polymethacrylates and chitosan/poly(4 ‐vinylpyridine) smart coatings, electrophoretically deposited on nanosilver‐decorated titania nanotubes
This study involved different surface treatments of titanium surface, mainly by electrochemical oxidation to produce a nanotubular oxide layer (TNTs), a subsequent electrochemical reduction of silver nitrate and decoration of a nanotubular surface with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), and finally electrophoretic deposition (EPD) of a composite of chitosan (CS) and either polymethacrylate-based copolymer Eudragit E 100 (EE100) or poly(4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP) coating. The effects of each stage of this multi-step modification were examined in terms of morphology, roughness, wettability, corrosion resistance, coating-substrate ad...

Superhydrophobic Nanoparticles: An Efficiently Selective Adsorbent for Surfactant ‐Like Contaminants from Complex Wastewater Matrices
Superhydrophobic polydopamine nanospheres are developed to efficiently and selectively remove surfactant-like contaminants from complex wastewater matrices. A low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (LT-NMR) is conducted to offer a quantitative surface characterization approach for powder nanoparticles and elucidate insights into the interaction mechanism. AbstractSurfactant-like contaminants (SLCs) with distinctive amphiphilic structures have become a global concern in wastewater due to their toxicity and persistency. Despite extensive efforts, achieving efficient and selective SLCs removal remains challenging because of the...

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 6730: GeO2 Nanoparticles Decorated in Amorphous Carbon Nanofiber Framework as Highly Reversible Lithium Storage Anode
n Sun Xiaolei Sun Germanium oxide (GeO2) is a high theoretical capacity electrode material due to its alloying and conversion reaction. However, the actual cycling capacity is rather poor on account of suffering low electron/ion conductivity, enormous volume change and agglomeration in the repeated lithiation/delithiation process, which renders quite a low reversible electrochemical lithium storage reaction. In this work, highly amorphous GeO2 particles are uniformly distributed in the carbon nanofiber framework, and the amorphous carbon nanofiber not only improves the conduction and buffers the volume changes but al...

Microfluidic Detection of Water Contamination Using THz Antenna with Metamaterials: Analysis of Silver Nanospheres in the THz Spectrum
AbstractTHz antenna with wide bandwidth and high Q-factor is interesting for various applications including 6G applications and THz sensing and controlling the surface current of the antenna is known as a technique for bandwidth enhancement. The slot antenna with metasurface is a good candidate for this aim. In this research, we have suggested a multilayer slot antenna with metamaterial load to provide wide bandwidth which covers the 1.08 to 1.8 THz with more than 50%, and the Q-factor is increased up to 213. The metamaterial loads make various paths for the current on the surface of the antenna that makes it possible to a...
