MicroRNAs Regulate Tumorigenesis by Downregulating SOCS3 Expression: An < em > In silico < /em > Approach
This study identifies the interactions of known (miR-203a-5p) and novel (miR-6756-5p, miR-6732-5p, miR-1203, miR-6887-5p) microRNAs with SOCS3 regions due to their maximum interactions. Identifying the interactions of these microRNAs with SOCS3 will significantly advance the understanding of oncomiRs (miRNAs that are associated with cancer development) in tumor development due to their influence on SOCS3 expression. These insights will assist in future studies to understand the significance of miRNA-SOCS3-associated tumor development and progression.PMID:37701630 | PMC:PMC10493049 | DOI:10.1177/11779322231193535

MicroRNA signature from extracellular vesicles of HCV/HIV co-infected individuals differs from HCV mono-infected
J Mol Med (Berl). 2023 Sep 14. doi: 10.1007/s00109-023-02367-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHepatitis C virus (HCV) coinfection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) has a detrimental impact on disease progression. Increasing evidence points to extracellular vesicles (EVs) as important players of the host-viral cross-talk. The microRNAs (miRNAs), as essential components of EVs cargo, are key regulators of normal cellular processes and also promote viral replication, viral pathogenesis, and disease progression. We aimed to characterize the plasma-derived EVs miRNA signature of chronic HCV infected and HIV coinfected pat...

Nucleic Acid-to-Small Molecule Converter through Amplified Hairpin DNA Circuits
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2023 Sep 13:e202306587. doi: 10.1002/anie.202306587. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMany microRNAs (miRNAs) are characteristically found in cancer cells, making miRNAs promising marker biomolecules for cancer diagnosis and therapeutics. However, it is challenging to use miRNA as a cancer signature because it is difficult to convert the nucleic acid sequence information into molecular functionality. To address this challenge, we realize nucleic acid-to-small molecule converters using hairpin DNA circuits. Harnessing a Staudinger reduction as a trigger for the conversion, we constructed hybridization c...

MicroRNA-223: a key regulator of liver tumour microenvironment
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide with few effective drug treatments. Recent combination therapies inhibiting immune checkpoints and angiogenesis showed better overall and progression-free survival outcomes than the protein kinase inhibitor sorafenib in patients with unresectable HCC,1 suggesting targeting tumour microenvironment (TME) is a promising strategy for the treatment of HCC. However, how the TME is developed and regulated is still poorly known. Thus, understanding the pathogenesis of HCC TME would be essential in order to develop more effective HCC thera...
