The Potential Dual Role of H2.0-like Homeobox in the Tumorgenesis and Development of Colorectal Cancer and Its Prognostic Value
CONCLUSION: HLX probably played a carcinostasis role in the early stages of CRC but exhibited a cancer-promoting effect in the advanced stages. Meanwhile, HLX could serve as a reliable prognostic indicator for CRC.PMID:37719132 | PMC:PMC10505080 | DOI:10.1155/2023/5521544

SERS-based methods for the detection of genomic biomarkers of cancer
Talanta. 2023 Sep 15;267:125198. doi: 10.1016/j.talanta.2023.125198. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGenomic biomarkers of cancer are based on changes in nucleic acids, which include abnormal expression levels of some miRNAs, point mutations in DNA sequences, and altered levels of DNA methylation. The presence of tumor-related nucleic acids in body fluids (blood, saliva, or urine) makes it possible to achieve a non-invasive early-stage cancer diagnosis. Currently existing techniques for the discovery of nucleic acids require complex, time-consuming, costly assays and have limited multiplexing abilities. Surface-enhanced Rama...

Expression profiles of lncRNAs, miRNAs, and mRNAs during the proliferative phase of liver regeneration in mice with liver fibrosis
Genomics. 2023 Sep 16;115(5):110707. doi: 10.1016/j.ygeno.2023.110707. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe role of lncRNAs in the regeneration of fibrotic liver is unclear. To address this issue, we established a 70% hepatectomy model of liver fibrosis in mice, used high-throughput sequencing technology to obtain the expression profiles of lncRNAs, miRNAs, and mRNAs, and constructed a lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory network. A total of 1329 lncRNAs, 167 miRNAs, and 6458 mRNAs were differentially expressed. On this basis, a lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA ceRNA regulatory network consisting of 38 DE lncRNAs, 24 DE miRNAs, and 299 DE mRNAs was...

An immunoassay-like recognition mechanism-based lateral flow strategy for rapid microRNA analysis
Chem Commun (Camb). 2023 Sep 18. doi: 10.1039/d3cc03788f. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA rapid lateral flow assay (LFA) is developed for the colorimetric and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) dual-mode detection of microRNA (miRNA) based on the robust immunoassay-like (immuno-like) recognition mechanism of S9.6 antibody to DNA/miRNA duplexes. Different from the traditional target-mediated sandwich-type hybridization-based LFA methods, the formation of S9.6 antibody/miRNA/DNA complexes is more rapid and stable, achieving 40 times higher sensitivity with only 10 min assaying time. Furthermore, taking benefit of the v...

Cytological observation and RNA-seq analysis reveal novel miRNAs high expression associated with the pollen fertility of neo-tetraploid rice
Neo-tetraploid rice lines exhibit high fertility and strong heterosis and harbor novel specific alleles, which are useful germplasm for polyploid rice breeding. However, the mechanism of the fertility associat...

Serum polychlorinated biphenyl levels and circulating miRNAs in non-obese women with and without polycystic ovary syndrome
ConclusionIn this cohort of women, with no difference in age and BMI, and with similar PCB levels, the miRNAs correlating to PCBs associated with menstrual cycle factors in healthy menstruating controls versus the anovulatory PCOS subjects. The PCB-associated miRNAs did not correlate with non-reproductive hormonal and metabolic parameters. This suggests that PCB effects on miRNAs may result in changes to the hypothalamo-ovarian axis that may thus affect fertility.

Expressions of mitochondria-related genes in pregnant women with subclinical hypothyroidism, and expressions of miRNAs in maternal and cord blood
ConclusionsA trend towards decreased mitochondrial gene expressions in subclinical hypothyroidism were demonstrated. The miRNAs hsa-let-7d-3p and hsa-miR-345-5p might be potential markers of maternal subclinical hypothyroidism. However, larger studies are needed to verify the findings.

Recent studies on non-invasive biomarkers useful in biliary atresia - a literature review
Acta Biochim Pol. 2023 Sep 17. doi: 10.18388/abp.2020_6858. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe aim of this review is to specify new potential reliable and non-invasive methods for the diagnosis of biliary atresia (BA) that could shorten the way to diagnose BA, and finally the surgical treatment. Apart from the biomarkers that have been proven helpful and are used nowadays in neonatal wards, there are several new potential biomarkers that researchers have found to be helpful in the diagnosis of biliary atresia. Circulating microRNAs, matrix metalloproteinase-7, stool proteins, interleukin-33, Th17-associated cytokines, urina...

Emerging cell cycle related non-coding RNA biomarkers from saliva and blood for oral squamous cell carcinoma
Mol Biol Rep. 2023 Sep 17. doi: 10.1007/s11033-023-08791-w. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe unnotified or undifferentiable early stages of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) progression are the prime reasons for late-stage detection and poor survival outcomes of oral cancer. This review summarizes the prior research and recent advancements on the influence of dysregulated non-coding RNA (ncRNA) on cell cycle and their employability as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers of oral cancer. The literature search was performed using the following keywords: 'serum/saliva non-coding RNAs' and 'serum/saliva non-coding RNAs and ...
