Integrative diagnostics of the gastro-intestinal tract – gastroesophageal reflux and constipation in practice
AbstractCommon disorders of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, such as gastroesophageal reflux/disease (GER/D) and constipation, are frequent causes for seeking medical support in infants. Diagnostic workup must ensure that diagnosed diseases are responsible for such complaints, thus enabling appropriate therapy. In this context assessment consists of clinical examination, functional tests, and imaging, which should be done in a staged manner. Close cooperation between clinicians and clinical radiologists enables optimal diagnostics, thus forming the basis for appropriate therapy.

Investigating the Impact of Co-processed Excipients on the Formulation of Bromhexine Hydrochloride Orally Disintegrating Tablets (ODTs)
ConclusionsWe proved that the active ingredient cannot be absorbed in oral cavity and its dissolution profiles in media representing upper part of gastrointestinal tract are similar to marketed immediate release drug product. In our opinion, the developed formula is suitable for registration within the well-established use procedure without necessity of bioequivalence testing.

Perioperative and Oncological Outcomes of Cytoreductive Surgery and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy for Peritoneal Metastasis of Rectal Origin
ConclusionsPatients with rectal carcinoma undergoing CRS/HIPEC for peritoneal metastasis had worse peri-operative and oncological outcomes. Overall survival was excellent in both groups. This data may be used for risk stratification when considering CRS/HIPEC for patients with rectal primary.

Exploring tumor-normal cross-talk with TranNet: Role of the environment in tumor progression
PLoS Comput Biol. 2023 Sep 18;19(9):e1011472. doi: 10.1371/journal.pcbi.1011472. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThere is a growing awareness that tumor-adjacent normal tissues used as control samples in cancer studies do not represent fully healthy tissues. Instead, they are intermediates between healthy tissues and tumors. The factors that contribute to the deviation of such control samples from healthy state include exposure to the tumor-promoting factors, tumor-related immune response, and other aspects of tumor microenvironment. Characterizing the relation between gene expression of tumor-adjacent control samples and tu...

Silencing of keratin 15 impairs viability and mobility while facilitating the doxorubicin chemosensitivity by inactivating the β‑catenin pathway in liver cancer
In conclusion, KRT15 knockdown suppressed viability and mobility but facilitated Dox chemosensitivity via inactivating the β-catenin pathway in liver cancer, suggesting its potential as a target for liver cancer treatment.PMID:37720670 | PMC:PMC10502946 | DOI:10.3892/ol.2023.14034

ATP promotes resident CD34 < sup > + < /sup > cell migration mainly through P2Y2-Stim1-ERK/p38 pathway
Am J Physiol Cell Physiol. 2023 Sep 18. doi: 10.1152/ajpcell.00048.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTExtracellular adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is one of the most abundant biochemical constitutes within the stem cell microenvironment and is postulated to play critical roles in cell migration. However, it is unclear whether ATP regulates the cell migration of CD34+ vascular wall-resident stem/progenitor cells (VW-SCs) and participates in angiogenesis. Therefore, the biological mechanisms of cell migration mediated by ATP was determined by in vivo subcutaneous matrigel plug assay, ex vivo aortic ring assay, in vitro transw...

TPVB and general anesthesia affects postoperative functional recovery in elderly patients with thoracoscopic pulmonary resections based on ERAS pathway
CONCLUSION: Based on the ERAS pathway, TPVB combined with general anesthesia in thoracoscopic surgery for lung cancer in elderly patients can effectively reduce the patients' hemodynamic fluctuations, alleviate postoperative pain, accelerate the recovery process, and reduce complications.PMID:37719744 | PMC:PMC10500636 | DOI:10.1515/tnsci-2022-0305

Adverse event profile of CGRP monoclonal antibodies: findings from the FDA adverse event reporting database
CONCLUSION: We identified numerous shared underlying signals (overlapping signals) for CGRP-mAbs as suspected drugs in multiple systems and organs. The unlabeled common signals may indicate potential safety issues. In addition, the underlying safety signals varied among the four CGRP-mAbs, particularly in the cardiovascular system, and further studies are needed to confirm these associations and the potential clinical implications.PMID:37720989 | DOI:10.1080/14740338.2023.2250720

Prevalence of Enteric Infections in Patients on Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors and Impact on Management and Outcomes
CONCLUSIONS: GI infections in ICI-treated patients presenting with diarrhea are linked to more severe but self-limited clinical presentations and may be optimally treated with observation and supportive care alone. Routine and timely stool pathogen testing may help avert unnecessary empiric immunosuppression for suspected irEC, which has been linked to blunted antitumor responses and numerous adverse effects.PMID:37721546 | DOI:10.1093/oncolo/oyad226
