Endoluminal treatment for Zenker's diverticulum - a population-based observational study
CONCLUSION: Both rigid endoscopic stapled oesophago-diverticulostomy and laser diverticulostomy are safe treatments for Zenker's diverticulum, however with a substantial risk of recurrence.PMID:37728323 | DOI:10.1080/00365521.2023.2260036

Cognitive function in patients with irritable bowel syndrome: impairment is common and only weakly correlated with depression/anxiety and severity of gastrointestinal symptoms
CONCLUSION: Cognitive and emotional function were more severely affected in patients with IBS than in HCs. The weak correlation between the two functional areas suggests that both should be assessed as part of a clinical examination of patients with IBS.PMID:37727887 | DOI:10.1080/00365521.2023.2256916

Prognosis-related novel immunostaining pattern for programmed cell death ligand 1 and prognostic value of tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes in triple-negative breast cancer
This study aims to determine the prognostic significance of programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression and tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) in triple- negative breast cancer (TNBC). PD-L1 expression and TIL percentage were determined in TNBCs that did not receive neoadjuvant therapy. The relationship between PD-L1 expression and the percentage of TILs with survival was investigated. The presence of intratumoural PD-L1-positive tumour-infiltrating immune cells (TIICs) in tumours with ≥ 1% PD-L1 expression was identified as a new PD-L1 evaluation parameter. The presence of intratumoural PD-L1-positive TIICs as...

We have read with great interest the letter by Bhowmick et  al,1 who provide interesting questions about the randomized controlled trial by our group regarding prophylactic EUS-guided gallbladder drainage in patients with unresectable malignant biliary obstruction (MBO) and occlusion of the cystic duct orifice (CDO).2

Endoscopic drainage of pancreatic fluid collections: Does hospital volume impact outcomes?
Acute and chronic pancreatitis can be complicated by the presence of pancreatic fluid collections (PFCs), some of which may become infected or symptomatic. Over the past decade, numerous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of minimally invasive percutaneous or endoscopic drainage methods in managing these fluid collections, highlighting their superiority over surgical intervention.1,2 However, concerns about the development of pancreaticocutaneous fistulas have made endoscopic drainage the preferred choice for initial treatment, although its feasibility may be limited in cases where the PFC lacks a mature wall or i...

We greatly appreciate the comment by Carlson and Hew,1 “Underwater versus conventional EMR of large nonpedunculated colorectal lesions: no clarity on the role of submucosal injection,” because it brings out the issue of combining strategies within underwater EMR (UEMR). As these authors say, Binmoeller et al2 described the UEMR technique as a resec tion strategy in which the floating effect allows the creation of a resection plane in the submucosal layer, without the need for submucosal injection.
