Accuracy of polyp characterization by artificial intelligence and endoscopists: a prospective, non-randomized study in a tertiary endoscopy center
Conclusion Accuracy for polyp characterization by a new commercially available AI system is high, but does not fulfill the criteria for a “resect-and-discard” strategy. Patient-specific targeted analysis of circulating tumour DNA in plasma is feasible and may be a potential biomarker in UTUC
ConclusionOur early findings demonstrate that ctDNA in plasma can be detected by targeted analysis in patients with UTUC. However, further studies are needed to determine its role as a potential biomarker.

Exploring tumor-normal cross-talk with TranNet: Role of the environment in tumor progression
by Bayarbaatar Amgalan, Chi-Ping Day, Teresa M. Przytycka There is a growing awareness that tumor-adjacent normal tissues used as control samples in cancer studies do not represent fully healthy tissues. Instead, they are intermediates between healthy tissues and tumors. The factors that contribute to the deviation of such control samples from healthy state include exposure to the tumor-promoting factors, tumor-related immune response, and other aspects of tumor microenvironment. Characterizing the relation between gene expression of tumor-adjacent control samples and tumors is fundamental for understanding roles of micro...

Robot-assisted fluorescent sentinel lymph node identification in early-stage colon cancer
ConclusionsRobot-assisted fluorescence-guided SLNi using submucosally injected ICG in ten patients with cT1-2N0M0 CC was safe and feasible. SLNi was performed in an acceptable timespan and SLNs down to 1  mm were detected. All lymph node metastases would have been detected if SLN biopsy had been performed.

Nitric oxide-dependent immunosuppressive function of thymus-derived mesenchymal stromal/stem cells
The thymus is required for T cell development and the formation of the adaptive immunity. Stromal cells, which include thymic epithelial cells (TECs) and mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs), are essential for thy...

Luteolin exhibits synergistic therapeutic efficacy with erastin to induce ferroptosis in colon cancer cells through the HIC1-mediated inhibition of GPX4 expression
This study aimed to examine the synergistic therapeutic impact of combining erastin with a bioactive flavonoid compound luteolin on the ferroptosis-mediated suppression of colon cancer. Human colon cancer HCT116 and SW480 cells were used for the in vitro studies and a xenograft of colon cancer model in BALB/c nude mice was established for the in vivo experiments. The results showed that combinative treatment of luteolin and erastin effectively inhibited the viability and proliferation of colon cancer cells. Luteolin and erastin cotreatment synergistically induced ferroptosis, concomitant with a reduction in glutathione and...

NAP1L5 facilitates pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma progression via TRIM29-mediated ubiquitination of PHLPP1
Biochem Pharmacol. 2023 Sep 15:115811. doi: 10.1016/j.bcp.2023.115811. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is considered one of the most aggressive solid tumours in humans. Despite its high mortality rate, effective targeted therapeutic strategies remain limited due to incomplete understanding of the underlying biological mechanisms. The NAP1L gene family has been implicated in the development and progression of various human tumours. However, the specific function and role of NAP1L5 (nucleosome assembly protein-like 5) in PDAC have not been fully elucidated. Therefore, in this study, we a...

‘These patients do not have time’: families in UK demand access to new drug that slows brain tumours
Vorasidenib worked in trials but is not yet available on the NHSOn a fine spring day two years ago, Shay Emerton was in good spirits playing for an old pupils ’ school football team. There was just 10 minutes of the game to play, when his life changed for ever.Emerton, 26, said: “The goalie kicked to clear the ball and it hit me on the side of the head. I went dizzy and as I went to run off, my legs buckled beneath me. I thought, ‘I am in trouble here’ and then blacked out.”Continue reading...

EORTC consensus recommendations for the treatment of mycosis fungoides/S ézary syndrome – update 2023
On behalf of the EORTC Cutaneous Lymphoma Tumours Group (EORTC-CLTG) and following up on earlier versions published in 2006 and 2017 this document provides an updated standard for the treatment of mycosis fungoides and S ézary syndrome (MF/SS). It considers recent relevant publications and treatment options introduced into clinical practice after 2017.Consensus was established among the authors through a series of consecutive consultations in writing and a round of discussion. Treatment options are assigned to each disease stage and, whenever possible and clinically useful, separated into first- and second line options an...

Endoscopic procedures in HEPATOLOGY:CURRENT trends and new developments
Gastrointestinal endoscopy has always formed a reliable and indispensable backbone in the diagnosis and management of hepatobilary disorders and their complications. However, with evolving non-invasive testing, personalized medicine has reframed the utility and necessity of endoscopical screening. Conversely, the growing interest and use of endoscopic ultrasound and advanced endoscopy within gastrointestinal units has also opened novel diagnostic and therapeutic avenues for patients with various hepatobiliary diseases.
