Current perspective on biological properties of plasmacytoid dendritic cells and dysfunction in gut
pDCs are a subset of dendritic cells, and transcription factors play a crucial role in the process. pDCs contribute to intestinal immune responses by generating interferon (IFN) and presenting antigens. pDCs guard the intestinal mucosa and protect against the invasion of microbiota and pathogens in the gut, playing a pivotal role in gut infection and colon cancer. AbstractPlasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs), a subtype of DC, possess unique developmental, morphological, and functional traits that have sparked much debate over the years whether they should be categorized as DCs. The digestive system has the greatest mucosal ...

Orally ‐Delivered, Cytokine‐Engineered Extracellular Vesicles for Targeted Treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Disease
A nested delivery system for oral delivery of the anti-inflammatory cytokine  IL-10 for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease is developed. The new method for orally taking protein has high patient compliance, compared with intravenous or intramuscular administration routes. This proof-of-concept for IBD treatment also affords a versatile methodology for other oral pr otein-based therapeutics delivery. AbstractThe use of orally-administered therapeutic proteins for treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has been limited due to the harsh gastrointestinal environment and low bioavailability that affects deliver...

Spontaneous dissection of digestive arteries: Outcomes of medical, surgical, and endovascular treatment in 169 patients
Isolated spontaneous dissection of the gastrointestinal arteries is a rare condition. Its course is still not well known, and the optimal treatment is not established. The aim of this study was to study the evolution and management of this pathology.

First French structure dedicated to intestinal vascular emergencies (SURVI): 7-year prospective Results
Acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI) is a vital,  medico-surgical, vascular, and gastrointestinal emergency. The progression to intestinal infarction and its vital complications is unpredictable with a high mortality rate. Since 2009, we developed within a hospital group a standardized, multimodal and multidisciplinary therapeutic approach, targe ting intestinal viability that allowed for a radical change in prognosis with a> 70% survival rate. This motivated the opening of a first Structure of Intestinal Vascular Emergencies (SURVI) in January 2016.

Neonatal erythema multiforme associated with a rotavirus infection: A case report
CONCLUSION: The possibility of rotavirus, a major cause of pediatric gastrointestinal infections, being a trigger for neonatal EM should be considered.PMID:37727716 | PMC:PMC10506005 | DOI:10.12998/wjcc.v11.i24.5749

Prognosis-related novel immunostaining pattern for programmed cell death ligand 1 and prognostic value of tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes in triple-negative breast cancer
This study aims to determine the prognostic significance of programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression and tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) in triple- negative breast cancer (TNBC). PD-L1 expression and TIL percentage were determined in TNBCs that did not receive neoadjuvant therapy. The relationship between PD-L1 expression and the percentage of TILs with survival was investigated. The presence of intratumoural PD-L1-positive tumour-infiltrating immune cells (TIICs) in tumours with ≥ 1% PD-L1 expression was identified as a new PD-L1 evaluation parameter. The presence of intratumoural PD-L1-positive TIICs as...

Clinical and dosimetric outcomes of image-guided, dose-painted radiotherapy in muscle invasive bladder cancer
CONCLUSION: Partial boost RT in MIBC is associated with good local disease control and high rates of cystectomy free survival. We observed a pattern of predominantly LR in the tumor bed, supporting the use of a dose-painted approach/de-escalation strategy to the uninvolved bladder. Prospective trials are required to compare oncological and toxicity outcomes between dose-painted and homogeneous bladder RT techniques.PMID:37730609 | DOI:10.1186/s13014-023-02338-w

Endoluminal treatment for Zenker's diverticulum - a population-based observational study
CONCLUSION: Both rigid endoscopic stapled oesophago-diverticulostomy and laser diverticulostomy are safe treatments for Zenker's diverticulum, however with a substantial risk of recurrence.PMID:37728323 | DOI:10.1080/00365521.2023.2260036

Cognitive function in patients with irritable bowel syndrome: impairment is common and only weakly correlated with depression/anxiety and severity of gastrointestinal symptoms
CONCLUSION: Cognitive and emotional function were more severely affected in patients with IBS than in HCs. The weak correlation between the two functional areas suggests that both should be assessed as part of a clinical examination of patients with IBS.PMID:37727887 | DOI:10.1080/00365521.2023.2256916

Synchronous rectal adenocarcinoma and intestinal mantle cell lymphoma: A case report
CONCLUSION: Synchronous rectal adenocarcinoma and intestinal MCL presenting as multiple lymphomatous polyposis are extremely rare. MCL is often discovered fortuitously when rectal cancer is diagnosed. The coexistence of these tumors poses treatment challenges.PMID:37727717 | PMC:PMC10506007 | DOI:10.12998/wjcc.v11.i24.5772

Investigation of conditioned medium properties obtained from human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem/stromal cells preconditioned with dimethyloxalylglycine in a correlation with ultrastructural changes
Microsc Res Tech. 2023 Sep 20. doi: 10.1002/jemt.24420. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) hold significant therapeutic value due to their regeneration abilities, migration capacity, and immunosuppressive and immunomodulatory properties. These cells secrete soluble and insoluble factors, and this complex secretome contributes to their therapeutic effect. Furthermore, stimulation of cells by various external stimuli lead to secretome modifications that can increase the therapeutic efficacy. So, this study examined the effect of dimethyloxalylglycine (DMOG), a hypoxia-mimetic agent, on secret...
