The Incidence and Risk Factors of Optic Nerve Damage of Posner-Schlossman Syndrome: A Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSION: A fraction of PSS patients ultimately develop GOND so physicians should not be highly optimistic about the prognosis of PSS patients and timely and effective treatment is very important. Patients of higher age, those with double eyes affected, and suffering from a long disease duration might be at a greater risk of developing GOND.PMID:37652409

Multiple (frontloaded) visual field tests increase identification of very slow mean deviation progression in glaucoma
CONCLUSIONS: Frontloading VF tests at 6-monthly intervals improve detection rates of MD progression in slowly progressive glaucoma patients compared with performing 1 test per visit at yearly intervals.PMID:37652089 | DOI:10.1016/j.jcjo.2023.07.023

A Cross-sectional Analysis of 556 Eyes Entering the Homburg Aniridia Centre
CONCLUSIONS: At the Homburg Aniridia Center, the most common ophthalmic signs in congenital aniridia were AAK, iris malformation, cataract, and macular hypoplasia. The iris malformation type may indicate future expression of AAK, cataract, and glaucoma development and it is correlated with a congenital optic nerve head and macular pathology. Our registry will support further detailed longitudinal analysis of ophthalmic and systemic diseases of aniridia subjects during long-term follow-up.PMID:37647922 | DOI:10.1055/a-2065-8405

Intercellular communication atlas reveals Oprm1 as a neuroprotective factor for retinal ganglion cells
Res Sq. 2023 Aug 17:rs.3.rs-3193738. doi: 10.21203/rs.3.rs-3193738/v1. Preprint.ABSTRACTThe progressive death of mature neurons often results in neurodegenerative diseases. While the previous studies have mostly focused on identifying intrinsic mechanisms controlling neuronal survival, the extracellular environment also plays a critical role in regulating cell viability. Here we explore how intercellular communication contributes to the survival of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) following the optic nerve crush (ONC). Although the direct effect of the ONC is restricted to the RGCs, we observed transcriptomic responses in oth...

Influence of Diabetes Mellitus on Glaucoma-Relevant Examination Results in Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma
Klin Monbl Augenheilkd. 2023 Aug 29. doi: 10.1055/a-2105-0756. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPrimary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) is no longer considered an isolated eye pressure-dependent optic neuropathy, but a neurodegenerative disease in which oxidative stress and neuroinflammation are prominent. These processes may be exacerbated by additional systemic diseases. The most common are arterial hypertension, dyslipidemia, and diabetes mellitus. Using diabetes mellitus as an example, it will be shown how far-reaching the influence of such a systemic disease can be on both the functional and the structural diagnostic methods ...

In Silico Prediction of Selected Bioactive Compounds Present in Alpinia elegans (C.Presl) K.Schum Seed Oil as Potential Drug Candidates Against Human Cancer Cell Lines
CONCLUSION: The binding energy indicated that the ligands could securely dock to the receptors, thus suggesting that interaction between the ligands and receptors was stable. Results have shown that the compounds are promising candidates against human cancer cell lines by inhibiting cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis.PMID:37642045 | DOI:10.31557/APJCP.2023.24.8.2601
