The emerging Janus face of SVEP1 in development and disease
Trends Mol Med. 2023 Sep 4:S1471-4914(23)00187-9. doi: 10.1016/j.molmed.2023.08.002. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSushi, von Willebrand factor type A, EGF, and pentraxin domain containing 1 (SVEP1) is a large extracellular matrix protein that is also detected in circulation. Recent plasma proteomic and genomic studies have revealed a large number of associations between SVEP1 and human traits, particularly chronic disease. These include associations with cardiac death and disease, diabetes, platelet traits, glaucoma, dementia, and aging; many of these are causal. Animal models demonstrate that SVEP1 is critical in vascula...

Aqueous misdirection syndrome post silicone oil removal in a vitrectomized eye - a case report
CONCLUSION: AMS can rarely occur following vitrectomy and is likely secondary to intact anterior hyaloid. Lensectomy along with zonulo-hyaloido-iridectomy is essential. This report highlights the occurrence of this rare complication and its effective management.PMID:37673074 | DOI:10.1177/11206721231200063

Pregnancy outcomes in the medical management of glaucoma: An international multicenter descriptive survey
CONCLUSIONS: The data from this survey suggest an overall favourable safety profile for topical glaucoma medications in pregnancy, but further investigation is needed. Caution should be employed regarding third trimester alpha-agonist use owing to association with NICU stay.PMID:37671417 | DOI:10.1177/11206721231199774

Precisional modulation of translaminar pressure gradients for ophthalmic diseases
Eur J Ophthalmol. 2023 Sep 5:11206721231199779. doi: 10.1177/11206721231199779. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe translaminar pressure gradient (TLPG) refers to two forces at the lamina cribosa of the optic nerve: the anteriorly acting intracranial pressure (ICP), and posteriorly-acting intraocular pressure (IOP). It has been proposed that controlling the translaminar pressure gradient at regular intervals may preserve the optic nerve and slow the course of glaucoma. The precisional modulation of this TLPG is a recently introduced concept that may play a role in the treatment of ophthalmic diseases such as glaucoma. In th...
