Niclosamide inhibits TGF- β1-induced fibrosis of human Tenon's fibroblasts by regulating the MAPK-ERK1/2 pathway
Exp Eye Res. 2023 Aug 22:109628. doi: 10.1016/j.exer.2023.109628. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPreventing postoperative bleb scar formation is an effective way of improving glaucoma filtration surgery (GFS) outcome. Use of more effective antifibrotic drugs with fewer adverse effects may be a good way to address the problem. In the present study, we use a primary cell model, consisting of Tenon's fibroblasts obtained from patients with glaucoma, which were stimulated with TGF-β1 to induce the fibrotic phenotype. We explored the effects of niclosamide on TGF-β1-induced fibrosis in these cells and examined its underlying m...

Comparison of peripapillary vascular density as measured by optical coherence tomography angiography between various types of open-angle glaucoma
CONCLUSIONS: The lower radial peripapillary capillary density in PXG and PG compared to the POAG and healthy groups suggests that the blood flow around the optic disc is negatively affected in these patients.PMID:37620193 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfo.2023.03.023

New Concepts in Steroid Glaucoma
AbstractPurpose of ReviewIn this article, we discuss the pathophysiology underlying intraocular pressure elevation associated with corticosteroid use as well as targeted therapies for treatment.Recent FindingsSeveral signaling pathways at the level of the trabecular meshwork are altered by steroid exposure. A pre-existing diagnosis of glaucoma is the best-established risk factor for development of steroid-associated ocular hypertension. Topical, local, and systemic steroids have all been associated with ocular hypertension.SummaryCurrent management is directed at steroid-sparing alternatives to treatment, steroid cessation...

Retrocorneal fibrous membrane after phacoemulsification in an eye with pseudoexfoliative glaucoma: a case report, video presentation and review of the literature
CONCLUSIONS: Retrocorneal fibrous membranes are encountered most commonly following corneal transplantation and may be surgically challenging to remove. We present the first case of a pathologically proven retrocorneal fibrous membrane following uncomplicated cataract surgery via phacoemulsification and selective laser trabeculoplasty.PMID:37607664 | DOI:10.1016/j.jcjo.2023.07.019

Clinical Characteristics and Outcomes of Endophthalmitis Before and During the COVID-19 Pandemic
CONCLUSION: Clinical characteristics and the post-injection endophthalmitis rate were similar during both periods, however, patients presented with worse vision during the pandemic suggesting that the pandemic may have contributed to delayed presentation, regardless, outcomes are still poor.PMID:37600921 | PMC:PMC10432927 | DOI:10.18502/jovr.v18i3.13777
