Biomaterials for Glaucoma Surgery
AbstractPurpose of ReviewHigh rates of fibrosis and bleb failure after conventional glaucoma surgeries have stimulated a renewed interest in developing biomaterials for glaucoma surgery. We review the latest findings on a variety of materials used to modify trabeculectomy, glaucoma drainage devices, nonpenetrating glaucoma surgeries and microinvasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS).Recent FindingsWhile traditional implant materials like silicone and polypropylene can be inflammatory and lead to device encapsulation, new biomaterials are aimed at lessening postoperative inflammation and fibrosis. Natural polymers found in the eye...

Identification and Analysis of Primary Cilia in the Corneal Endothelial Cells of Patients with Bullous Keratopathy
CONCLUSION: The findings in this study clearly demonstrate the expression of primary cilia in the CECs of patients afflicted with BK.PMID:37706487 | DOI:10.1080/02713683.2023.2259633

Factors Associated with Topical Medication Instillation Failure in Glaucoma: VRAMS-QPiG Study
CONCLUSION: In addition to older age, decreased cognitive function, hyperopia, and decreased foveal sensitivity are risks for failed eyedrop instillation. Treating physicians can screen patients who require guidance by checking the risk factors of instillation failure rather than by relying on patient reports.PMID:37707675 | DOI:10.1007/s12325-023-02646-3

Anterior segment complications after dexamethasone implantations:real world data
ConclusionThis study is the first long-term follow-up study in our country evaluating the safety of dexamethasone implant injections in various retinal diseases and presenting the first real world data. Cataract progression and increased IOP were found to be the most common side effects. We observed that the patient ’s diagnosis did not cause a statistically significant change in the observation of side effects. As a result of our findings, close follow-up of IOP after the injection of dexamethasone implants would be appropriate.

Phase 3 Clinical Trial Comparing the Safety and Efficacy of Netarsudil to Ripasudil in Patients with Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma or Ocular Hypertension: Japan Rho Kinase Elevated Intraocular Pressure Treatment Trial (J-ROCKET)
ConclusionNetarsudil ophthalmic solution 0.02% dosed QD (p.m.) was well tolerated and more effective in reducing IOP than ripasudil ophthalmic solution 0.4% dosed BID. Netarsudil 0.02% QD may become an important option for the treatment of Japanese patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) or ocular hypertension (OHT).Trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov identifier, NCT04620135.

Potential of mesenchymal stem cell-derived conditioned medium/secretome as a therapeutic option for ocular diseases
Regen Med. 2023 Sep 13. doi: 10.2217/rme-2023-0089. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTResearch has shown that the therapeutic effect of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) is partially due to its secreted factors as opposed to the implantation of the cells into the treated tissue or tissue replacement. MSC secretome, especially in the form of conditioned medium (MSC-CM) is now being explored as an alternative to MSCs transplantation. Despite the observed benefits of MSC-CM, only a few clinical trials have evaluated it and other secretome components in the treatment of eye diseases. This review provides insight into the potential the...
