In Silico Prediction of Selected Bioactive Compounds Present in Alpinia elegans (C.Presl) K.Schum Seed Oil as Potential Drug Candidates Against Human Cancer Cell Lines
CONCLUSION: The binding energy indicated that the ligands could securely dock to the receptors, thus suggesting that interaction between the ligands and receptors was stable. Results have shown that the compounds are promising candidates against human cancer cell lines by inhibiting cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis.PMID:37642045 | DOI:10.31557/APJCP.2023.24.8.2601

Nonlinear fourth-order elastic characterization of the cornea using torsional wave elastography
This study proposed developing a procedure to reconstruct nonlinear fourth-order elastic properties of the cornea based on a mathematical model derived from the theory of Hamilton et al. and using the torsional wave elastography (TWE) technique. In order to validate its diagnostic capability of simulated pathological conditions, two different groups were studied, non-treated cornea samples (n=7), and ammonium hydroxide (\(NH_4OH\)) treated samples (n=7). All the samples were measured in-plane by a torsional wave device by increasing IOP from 5 to 25 mmHg with 5 mmHg steps. The results show a nonlinear variation of the shea...

Clinical differences between Posner-Schlossman syndrome patients with intermittent intraocular pressure elevation and glaucomatous damage
CONCLUSION: Distinctive characteristics existed between PSS patients with secondary glaucoma and those with intermittent IOP elevation. Compound trabeculectomy appears to be an effective treatment option when IOP cannot be controlled through topical medications.PMID:37634490 | DOI:10.1159/000533495

Outcomes and risk factors for Kahook Dual Blade excisional goniotomy with concomitant phacoemulsification: A multicentre Canadian study
CONCLUSION: This multicentre Canadian study provides real-world data that support the safety and efficacy of phaco-KDB in reducing IOP and AGM use with no evidence of disease progression during the follow-up period.PMID:37634551 | DOI:10.1016/j.jcjo.2023.08.004

Mesenchymal stem cells differentiate to retinal ganglion-like cells in rat glaucoma model induced by polystyrene microspheres
CONCLUSION: Intravitreally transplanted rBM-MSCs differentiated into retinal cells, including ganglion-like cells, which successfully created a glaucoma model damaged with polystyrene microspheres. Promisingly, MSCs may have a role in neuro-protection and neuro-regeneration treatment of glaucoma in the future.PMID:37633122 | DOI:10.1016/j.tice.2023.102199

Effectiveness and Safety of Xen Gel Stent in Glaucoma Surgery: A Systematic Review of the Literature
This study aimed to review the effectiveness and safety of clinical data on XEN-stent in OAG patients with a Synthesis-Without-Meta-analysis (SWiM) methodology. A total of 339 studies were identified following a literature search adhering to PRISMA guidelines and, after evaluation, 96 studies are discussed. XEN63 and XEN45 device data were collected both short and long term. In addition, this document has evaluated different aspects related to the XEN implant, including: its role compared to trabeculectomy; the impact of mitomycin-C dose on clinical outcomes; postoperative management of the device; and the identification o...
