Effectiveness and Safety of Xen Gel Stent in Glaucoma Surgery: A Systematic Review of the Literature
This study aimed to review the effectiveness and safety of clinical data on XEN-stent in OAG patients with a Synthesis-Without-Meta-analysis (SWiM) methodology. A total of 339 studies were identified following a literature search adhering to PRISMA guidelines and, after evaluation, 96 studies are discussed. XEN63 and XEN45 device data were collected both short and long term. In addition, this document has evaluated different aspects related to the XEN implant, including: its role compared to trabeculectomy; the impact of mitomycin-C dose on clinical outcomes; postoperative management of the device; and the identification o...

Mesenchymal stem cells differentiate to retinal ganglion-like cells in rat glaucoma model induced by polystyrene microspheres
CONCLUSION: Intravitreally transplanted rBM-MSCs differentiated into retinal cells, including ganglion-like cells, which successfully created a glaucoma model damaged with polystyrene microspheres. Promisingly, MSCs may have a role in neuro-protection and neuro-regeneration treatment of glaucoma in the future.PMID:37633122 | DOI:10.1016/j.tice.2023.102199

Assessment of orbital hemodynamic changes in primary open angle glaucoma by color Doppler imaging
CONCLUSION: CDI is a feasible, noninvasive, safe tool for the assessment of hemodynamic changes in the orbital arteries of POAG patients. The orbital arteries showed significantly lower flow velocities and increased resistivity indices in patients with POAG compared to the control group, and these changes were correlated with glaucoma duration and IOP.PMID:37625998 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfo.2023.03.018

Niclosamide inhibits TGF- β1-induced fibrosis of human Tenon's fibroblasts by regulating the MAPK-ERK1/2 pathway
Exp Eye Res. 2023 Aug 22:109628. doi: 10.1016/j.exer.2023.109628. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPreventing postoperative bleb scar formation is an effective way of improving glaucoma filtration surgery (GFS) outcome. Use of more effective antifibrotic drugs with fewer adverse effects may be a good way to address the problem. In the present study, we use a primary cell model, consisting of Tenon's fibroblasts obtained from patients with glaucoma, which were stimulated with TGF-β1 to induce the fibrotic phenotype. We explored the effects of niclosamide on TGF-β1-induced fibrosis in these cells and examined its underlying m...
