Successful treatment of a primary thoracic dumb-bell yolk sac tumor presenting with severe spinal cord compression: Case report
The objective of this study is to report a primary thoracic dumb-bell YST presenting with severe spinal cord compression successfully treated with posterior-only approach operation, followed by chemotherapy. The management of these unique cases has not been fully documented. Patient concerns: A 26-mounth-old, previously healthy girl presented with progressive numbness and weakness of the lower extremities. Neurological examination revealed paralysis of both lower extremities, sensory disturbance below T-8 and bladder-bowel dysfunction. Diagnosis: CT and MRI of spine showed a dumb-bell mass lesion with both epidural a...

Malaria in pregnancy regulates P-glycoprotein (P-gp/Abcb1a) and ABCA1 efflux transporters in the Mouse Visceral Yolk Sac.
Abstract Malaria in pregnancy (MiP) induces intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and preterm labour (PTL). However, its effects on yolk sac morphology and function are largely unexplored. We hypothesized that MiP modifies yolk sac morphology and efflux transport potential by modulating ABC efflux transporters. C57BL/6 mice injected with Plasmodium berghei ANKA (5 × 105 infected erythrocytes) at gestational day (GD) 13.5 were subjected to yolk sac membrane harvesting at GD 18.5 for histology, qPCR and immunohistochemistry. MiP did not alter the volumetric proportion of the yolk sac's histological components. H...

GSE157140 Self-organized yolk sac-like organoids allow for scalable generation of multipotent hematopoietic progenitor cells from human induced pluripotent stem cells

However, the molecular and cellular biology of the human yolk sac remains largely obscure due to the lack of suitable in vitro models. Here, we show that human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) co-cultured with various types of stromal cells as...

The transfer of amino acids and minerals to the egg yolk and to the yolk sac of their progeny is affected by breeder age
This study aimed to assess the effects of breeder age on egg quality and amino acid and mineral transfer to the egg yolk and yolk sac of newly hatched chicks. Three ages (32, 42 and 52  weeks) of the same commercial flock of Hubbard breeders were studied. A total of 465 eggs were used for each age, with 60 being used for determining egg quality and amino acid and mineral content of yolk, and 405 for incubation period to obtain and evaluate the yolk sac of chicks. Breeders aged 52  weeks had heavier eggs and a higher percentage of yolk (p <  0.05), whereas 32-week-old breeders had higher eggshell percentage and thick...

Yolk sac tumor of the uterus in a 2-year-old girl: a case report and literature review
Extragonadal yolk sac tumors (YSTs) occurring in the uterus are extremely rare. To report a uterine YST case in a prepubertal girl and review literature on uterine YST to outline clinical management in diagnosis and treatment.

Urachal yolk sac tumor penetrating the bladder as a diagnostic challenge: a case report and review of the literature
Yolk sac tumor (YST) is a germ cell tumor. It is primarily located in the gonads but can also occur extragonadally (extragonadal yolk sac tumor - EGYST), most commonly in the pelvis, retroperitoneum or mediast...

Relapsed and refractory yolk sac tumor of the peritoneum (mesentery): A case report and literature review
ConclusionPostoperative histopathology and immunohistochemistry are gold standards for the diagnosis of peritoneal YST. The standard first-line treatment is surgery plus BEP chemotherapy. Second-line therapy regimens and above, including VIP and TIP, improve the prognosis of recurrent germ cell tumors. This relapsed and refractory patient with peritoneal YST benefits from the secondary BEP´ chemotherapy.
