Impact of different antiretroviral strategies on total HIV-DNA level in virologically suppressed HIV-1 infected patients.
Conclusion The data emphasize that HIV-DNA level represents a predictive factor in long-term suppressive therapy patients. In addition, the diminished reservoir, only observed in patients treated with the NRTI-sparing regimen RAL plus PI/r before immunological and virological derangement, suggest that latest generation drugs, such as integrase inhibitors, might represent an optimal chance in the management of HIV infection. Drug use is associated with anti-CD4 IgG-mediated CD4+ T cell death and poor CD4+ T cell recovery in viral-suppressive HIV-infected individuals under antiretroviral therapy.
CONCLUSION: These results suggest that drug use prevents immune reconstitution in HIV-infected individuals despite long-term ART treatment and viral suppression. PMID: 29968539 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Comparison of demographic, epidemiological, immunological, and clinical characteristics of patients with HIV mono-infection versus patients co-infected with HCV or/and HBV: a Serbian cohort study.
CONCLUSION: HIV/HCV co-infection was found to be more prevalent than HIV/HBV co-infection in a Serbian cohort. Co-infection with HCV was related to more profound immunodeficiency prior to therapy initiation, reflecting a possible unfavorable impact of HCV on the natural history of HIV infection. Prevalence of HIV in patients with malignancy and of malignancy in HIV patients in a tertiary care center from North India.
Abstract Background and objectives People living with HIV/AIDS are at increased risk of developing cancer. The goals of this study were to obtain data on the prevalence of HIV in the cancer population and vice versa at a major tertiary care cancer and HIV center in North India. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted over a 3-year period from July 2013 to June 2016, wherein successive HIV positive patients from an anti-retroviral therapy (ART) center were screened for malignancy. Simultaneously, successive cancer patients at the cancer center were screened for HIV. Baseline demographic details, risk facto...

Dynamic characteristics and HIV infection of men who have sex with men from 2011 to 2017 in Yinchuan, Ningxia, China.
CONCLUSIONS: The reduction of recent HIV diagnoses is an encouraging sign of successful HIV control measures in MSM in Ningxia. The finding that a high proportion of MSM had knowledge of HIV prevention but still conducted unprotected sex highlights the need for further control measures to change unsafe sexual practices among MSM. Potential role of regulatory T cells in mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
CONCLUSIONS: This study provides initial evidence that Treg may play a role in preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV, likely by suppressing immune activation in the fetus and infant, and needs to be substantiated in a larger study. Better characterization of the role of Treg in fetal and neonatal immunity may provide a valuable complementary approach to achieve eradication of mother-to-child transmission of HIV. Performance of a Modified In-house HIV-1 Avidity Assay among a Cohort of Newly Diagnosed HIV-1 Infected Individuals and the Effect of ART on Maturation of HIV-1 Specific Antibodies.
CONCLUSION: This modified in-house antibody avidity assay is an inexpensive method to detect recent HIV-1 infection. ART demonstrated significant effect on HIV-1 antibody avidity owing to changes in viral kinetics. PMID: 31309891 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The Frequency of HIV-1 Infection in Iranian Children and Determination of the Transmitted Drug Resistance in Treatment-na ïve Children.
CONCLUSION: The current study demonstrated that a total of 13.3% of treatment-naïve HIV-1-infected Iranian pediatrics (under 12 years old) were infected with HIV-1 variants with SDRMs. Therefore, it seems that screening to recognize résistance-associated mutations before the initiation of ARTs among Iranian children is essential for favorable medication efficacy and dependable prognosis. Assessment of key elements in the innate immunity system among patients with HIV, HCV, and coinfections of HIV/HCV.
CONCLUSION: Our results showed a significant relationship between the expression level of innate immunity genes and inflammation in HCV, HIV, and HIV/HCV coinfected patients. PMID: 32209045 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Single Nucleotide Polymorphism Analysis in HIV and Kaposi's Sarcoma Disease by Microarray Technique.
CONCLUSION: In the microarray study we have conducted, 204,000 SNPs were screened for Control (HIV-) HIV (+) and HIV (+) patient with Kaposi's Sarcoma. It was found that 32,362 of those SNPs had different alleles in the Kaposi's Sarcoma [KS + HIV (+)] patient, while they had the same ones in the control [KS (-) and HIV (-)] and HIV + [KS (-)] group. 16 of the 32,362 SNPs took place among the genes related to Kaposi's Sarcoma. In the cases of Kaposi's Sarcoma with suspected diagnosis, it can be used as a beneficial laboratory test. PMID: 32539678 [PubMed - in process]

Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV: Data Analysis Based on Pregnant Women Population from 2012 to 2018, in Nantong City, China.
CONCLUSIONS: Prenatal identification of HIV infection and timely administration of all preventive measures can completely block MTCT of HIV. The data indicate that more efforts must be taken to ensure that all pregnant women are tested for anti-HIV during pregnancy. For pregnant women who missed prenatal screening, a positive result in rapid anti-HIV test at delivery should be sufficient to take preventive measures to prevent MTCT of HIV. Reproductive Health and Family Planning Needs among HIV-Infected Women in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Conclusions: HIV-infected women in sub-Saharan Africa have myriad needs related to reproductive health, including access to high-quality family planning information and options, high-quality pregnancy care, and trained providers. Integrated services that help prevent unintended pregnancy and optimize maternal and infant health before, during and after pregnancy will both maximize limited resources as well as provide improved reproductive outcomes.
