Effect of the mGlu4 positive allosteric modulator ADX-88178 on parkinsonism, psychosis-like behaviours and dyskinesia in the MPTP-lesioned marmoset
ConclusionsWhereas these results provide additional evidence of the anti-parkinsonian and anti-dyskinetic effects of mGlu4 positive allosteric modulation as an adjunct to L-DOPA, they also suggest that ADX-88178 may exacerbate dopaminergic psychosis. Further studies are needed to evaluate this possible adverse effect of mGlu4 PAMs on PD psychosis.

Addressing the Mental Health Crisis: Why Personalized Digital Solutions Are Essential To Meet Growing Demand
The following is a guest article by Byron Crowe, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Solera Demand for mental services has never been higher, and an ongoing shortage of psychiatrists and psychologists is preventing millions of Americans from timely access to mental health services. And the timing couldn’t be worse — findings from Solera Health’s recent Mental Health Index, a nationally representative survey of over 3,000 U.S. adults, found that 42% of Americans continue to be bothered by symptoms of anxiety and depression, a staggering figure that remains substantially elevated from pre-pandemic numbers. Moreover, these sym...

Simultaneous Targeting of IL-1-Signaling and IL-6-Trans-Signaling Preserves Human Pulmonary Endothelial Barrier Function During a Cytokine Storm
CONCLUSIONS: These findings strongly suggest a major role for both IL-6 trans-signaling and IL-1β signaling in the pathological increase in permeability of the human lung microvasculature and reveal combinatorial strategies that enable the gradual control of pulmonary endothelial barrier function in response to a cytokine storm.PMID:37732482 | DOI:10.1161/ATVBAHA.123.319695

Elevated profiles of peripheral Th22, Th17, Th2 cells, and decreased percentage of Th1 cells in breast cancer patients
CONCLUSION: Th22, Th17, Th1, and Th2 subsets may play an essential role in BC patients. Th22, Th17, Th1, and Th2 cells may have potential significance to be used as clinical markers in BC patients with different molecular classification. Th22 cells may have potential value in BC patients' outcomes prediction, providing clinical value.PMID:37732365 | DOI:10.1111/1759-7714.15119

Tetrahydrobiopterin from cyanide-degrading bacterium Bacillus pumilus strain SVD06 induces apoptosis in human lung adenocarcinoma cell (A549)
Biotechnol Appl Biochem. 2023 Sep 20. doi: 10.1002/bab.2509. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) is an essential biological cofactor and a derivative of pterin which is considered potent anticancer agents. In continuation of our previous study on the identification of BH4 from cyanide-degrading Bacillus pumilus, the present study focuses on evaluating the anticancer properties of BH4 on A549, a human lung adenocarcinoma. Anticancer activity analysis shows that BH4 inhibited A549 cell growth after 24 h of incubation with 0.02 mg/mL. In acridine orange/ethidium bromide staining, BH4-treated A549 cells sho...

Nutrition-associated health levels in persons with cancer: item response modelling based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health
CONCLUSIONS: The study constructed an evidence-based ICF scale for nutrition conditions in patients with cancer with 32-item and 2PLM for evaluating nutrition-associated health level in persons with cancer, including high validity and reliability.CLINICAL REHABILITATION IMPACT: The IRT model based on ICF provided a promising assessment tool to discriminate nutrition-associated health level of persons with cancer, and offered an auxiliary method for selecting rehabilitation intervention targets. This has the potential to lead to improved outcomes in cancer treatment and increased quality of life for cancer survivors.PMID:37...

Role of three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography in cardiac myxomas: an imaging challenge
Monaldi Arch Chest Dis. 2023 Sep 19. doi: 10.4081/monaldi.2023.2768. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNowadays, the diagnosis of cardiac myxomas (CM), particularly the histological types, remains a challenge. Two-dimensional (2D) transthoracic (TT) and transesophageal (TEE) echocardiography (ECHO) represent the first steps in the imaging pathway. 3D ECHO, implemented in imaging practice, appears to be an emerging diagnostic technique that overcomes some of the limitations of 2D ECHO while integrating the information provided by magnetic resonance (MRI). However, its role in the imaging arena is still debatable. Analyzing 17 m...

Deuterium Magnetic Resonance Imaging Using Deuterated Water-Induced 2H-Tissue Labeling Allows Monitoring Cancer Treatment at Clinical Field Strength
CONCLUSIONS: Deuterium MRI at 1.5T proved feasibility to track 2H distribution throughout mouse tissues during D2O administration and revealed a higher 2H accumulation in the tumor xenografts. This research demonstrated a promising successful method for preliminary assessment of radiotherapy and chemotherapy of cancer.PMID:37732903 | DOI:10.1158/1078-0432.CCR-23-1635

Emotional intelligence in preregistration nurse education
This article details a literature review that was undertaken to explore EI in preregistration nurse education and to identify effective methods for developing nursing students' EI skills. A total of 12 articles were included in the review, from which data were extracted, compared and categorised. Three main areas were identified regarding EI in preregistration nurse education: EI constructs, EI components and EI teaching methods. The review found that a range of EI constructs and components may be included in nurse education curricula, meaning that there is often inconsistency in the approaches used. Classroom teaching met...

Involving patients and the public in nursing PhD projects: practical guidance, potential benefits and points to consider
CONCLUSION: Patients and the public should be involved in nursing PhD projects. Not only does this improve the quality of the research and raise the profile of nursing research, but it provides the opportunity for students to learn skills that they can develop further throughout their academic careers.IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: Obtaining high-quality patient and public involvement is an important skill for nurse researchers. The first steps in acquiring this skill should be taken during research training.PMID:37731298 | DOI:10.7748/nr.2023.e1891
